Renovated caravan

Hi, we have just replaced the "L" shaped lounge in our van with a couple of recliners and now we have no use for the lounge, so if someone is building a van/bus it would be suitable,it is in very good condition, we are in the SW of Western Australia. I can supply photos if needed, its in blue tones.

Hi izzey & welome to the forum.

Whilst I have no need for your kind offer of the lounge fitting, I am most interested in your renovation.

I have often wondered at how I could fit recliners into our van.

Could you please post pics of the reno.  I'm sure many others would be interested too.

By the way, If I were to do the reno, I would consider storing the lounge in case of resale.  Prospective purchasers might like the option of re-installing it.

Welcome to the forum Izzey.

We have an L shaped lounge in our van, and theres quite a bit of storage under it. how have you managed with putting stuff elsewhere? Like Cupie, we have considered recliners too, but dont want to lose the storage.

Hi Izzey, welcome to the Forum you will enjoy it immensely.  Whenever I want to attach a picture I just save it My Pictures and use "attach image(s)" which is at the bottom of the screen when typing your message.

Worked for me so far anyway.

We have lost some storage space, but it will make me be more efficent with the "stuff" we take so its not a problem, we have downsized again the gear we travel with , our next trip will be out fourth extended trip so we are getting the hang of it now.  See the photos i have attached, of the finished project.

They're fancy office chairs if my perception is correct?
I have seen similar conversions with recliner arm chairs. They're a lot more bulky, but it's about personal taste and space.
Do you use foot stools? I can't sit for too long with my legs hanging down. Sitting at the van couch I have a foot stool.
How much stuff do you need? I use the end drawers of my L couch, but the middle is wheel arch or too hard to get to anyway.
This compact life requires minimalist mentality.

Wow Izzy, that looks great, and so much more comfy than the standard-issue seats!

Excellent, and I bet much lighter than the L shape lounge. Every person is unique, we all want and use furniture differently.

Yes they are fancy office chairs, its a space thing, but we christenend it tonight with a glass or two of wine, and it was very comfy, they lean back easily and we were able to watch the tv with out any neck strain, happy campers are we.

The old (only 12 months) have been sold already so its a win for all.

Jeez, there are some great thinkers out there in Grey Nomad Land.
Another title for another topic. "Ideas & Modifications To Share".
The tech stuff is what it is. This would be about replacing couches with cuboards, lounges with comfy chairs, better use of storage, and similar adaptions to make life easier and better on the road.

Yes thats a great idea, with all the reno shows on tv at the moment, it does get the creative juices going,  I have just varnished all the cupboards woodwork in our caravan, howard made new curtains, out of a tablecloth, and we covered the pelmets with brown velvet embossed paper, it gives the van a totally different feel.  upholstery updated with new velour type blankets.  And now we have to downsize all our equipment.  I know my crepe pan will be definitely going, electric frypan, .  There is such a lot to do.  My little brain is working overtime.  cheers.

We have decided to change some of the cooking equipment for a "baby Q", that replaced the larger bbq,cob cooker, we will still uses the camp oven, the coffee machine wil be left home as will the turbo over, as we free camp most of the time, and geni doesn't like those two machines very much. Storage will be easier now, that i have given up a few items, but the thermal cooker thingy still gets a ride. Our last trip was up the west coast of WA for 4 months and we eager to go east now and explore in even more comfort.cheers

Hi Izzey.

How do you retain the chairs from moving when you are travelling?

they will be clipped into a hook on the side wall around the base of the leg, although i doubt they will moove off the carpet as they are quite heavy and there is no castors on the legs.

cheers
