The Computer Scam Rip-off Merchants are back again. I've just sent another complaint to the ACMA regarding these people acessing numbers on the Do Not Call Register.
First woman gave me a Sydney address. When I asked her how she got my number from the Do Not Call Register seeing she was in Australia, she said "Oh." and hung up.
Then later, the man said he was from Microsoft. When I asked "Microsoft where?" he said "USA". I said I had to see to food on the stove, so could he give me a number to call him back on. He said "that will be too expensive for you", so I let him know that I knew it was a scam. When I told him I would report him to the Comm. Police, [ I know they're not the ones to report to] he very coolly said, "So?"
At which point I hung up. and made my complaint.
I blew a whistle in the ear of one a day or so ago. I know I shouldn't, but they get me so angry.
Wonder how long it will be before the next one rings.
I just say, yes ...yes...yes....then ...Mmmm, then "I don't have any money" ...and.."my case worker said I should mention I am on probation", that seems to work well....Sadly these people do get to the uninformed and the unaware.
Don't know about tough Sharon. I just get so damned fed up with them. Don't know how many I've had over the last few months. I think in future I'll just put the 'phone down and walk away for a while, and let it cost them money.
How anyone can not be aware of these scams by now escapes me. There has been a lot of publicity on TV and the Radio again in the last few weeks.
You'd have to be living on the Moon [and I'm not sure they wouldn't find you there either, just quietly,] not to have heard something about them.
Have to stop letting them get to me, and think of my own Karma. Sure don't want anything like theirs.

I have my land line and my mobile on the "Do Not Call" register, and have not had any "scam" calls for months. I do get the occasional charity telemarketer, but on telling them "sorry, but no thanks" I don't hear again.
Years ago worked for a telemarketing company, we used to each take a page out of a phone book every morning, and woul systematically work our way throug that page. So if this i the way they are doing things, they wouldn't cross check the DNC register to the phone book page, too time consuming.

I know of people that when they get these calls just say "Hold on a moment, someones at the door," they then put the phone down and go about there normal routine, returning a fair while later and hanging up the phone...
I have had 2 calls in the last 2 nights from a lovely young Indian chap called Harry about my computer software, 1st night I told him I knew it was a scam and not to ever ever ever ring me again, so I was a bit surprised when he rang again last night and when I reminded him what I had said last night he denied it very politely of course and after a few chosen words from my husband in the background he hung up, I am also on the DNC register, next time I will also put the phone down and walk away for a few hours, just hope there is no way that we end up paying for call. Sheba, what are these computer scams? I live down a hole and we have no radio or tv
I also had my first call from these guys last night.. I'm also on the Do not call register?? and I think I will do what gubby suggested and ask them to hold..........
It must be they target land lines. I only have mobile, and I'm starting to feel left out. Oh, wait a minute! Do scam emails count? Then I win! Nah, nah, nah, nah. I've had 5 in the last 3 days. Some asian con artist with an investment proposal. Gee they must think we westerners, particularly Australians came down with the last space shuttle landing. I have to admit they're cunning, and even quite smart, but I don't know about you, but I'm awake to them. Keep up the good work folks. The whistle in the ear must really hurt. I used it once for an ex-boyfriend who was harassing me. He didn't do it again.

I have been getting calls probably for about a year now. I find this type of scam very disturbing because the peoplem have to interact with you personally - it's very different to an email from Nigeria or wherever.
The do not call register won't work because these people are cyber criminals and are not really traceable. The 1st call I got was fairly convincing, someone claiming to be from microsoft and I only got suspicious when they asked me to press keys which allowed them access to my hard drive.
The calls come in phases - don't get any for a while and then maybe several over 4 weeks. I have been having a lot of fun with them. Depending on my mood I get to swear visciously at them. Other times I have allowed them to think I am pressing the keys on my computer to allow access and they get really confused - are you sure you have pressed the keys etc??? Finally they hang up on me. I think next time I will do a reverse obscene phone call ask them what they are wearing and how big their appendages/orifices are etc etc ( I promise not to mention wombats).
Good tactics. These people are usually paid a pittance by the boss crooks. While they don't deserve all our wrath, they certainly deserve enough to ensure they pass it on to the crooks who employ them. It's an awful, degrading way to have to make a living, but there ways are not our ways, thank heavens. It's a bit like the Bigpond call centre staff. If you can understand them in the noisy room, ask them a question not on the script, and they're buggered. Most of them have very poor English comprehension, so it's very easy to confuse them.

We had several of those scam "microsoft" calls within a week, then they stopped as suddenly as they started. I tried telling them I knew it was a scam, that we were on the DNC register, shouted into the phone "Do not call this number again!" And even tried the referees whistle trick. But there was yet another ****** call the next day. I've no idea what made them stop in the end.
I agree the DNC register is irrelevant as far as they are concerned.
One of the best things about being away from home is we dont get any of those scam calls

with the microsoft scam I tell them that I am an 86 year old and do not own a computer, they usually hang up, don't get many calls now as we have disconnected the home phone
