Tow vehicle 2

G'day all

I know I've mentioned this before and you have provided helpful advice but just wanted to be sure of my facts. My current vehicle is a 4wd 4 cylinder toyota hilux deisel non-turbo with 160000km on the clock. I've checked out its towing capacity as advised earlier - it's around 2000kgs. I intend to buy a van that's around 1000 max (preferably lighter). My concern is whether my car is sturdy enough to tow something full time over the long term. I asked my mechanic about fitting a turbo facility and he said it wasn't worth it. I think I should probably upgrade to a 6 cylinder car, preferably 4wd and deisel but probably won't be able to get both with low kms on my limited budget. On the otherhand I don't want to be stuck with a car that isn't up to the job. Would people recommend upgrading my current car or do you think it is up to pulling the weight over time?

cheers

ellen

a hilux with 160k on it is just run in, there are plenty of non turbo tugs out there doing the job, upgrading to a 6 cyl does the job easier BUT may cost you more in the long run.
I would stick to the Hilux

I have a hilux 4wd, and changed the turbo 2,8 for a 5l-3 ltr with extracters, and am getting nearly as much power as the turbo2.8, but with better reliability and sinplicity.Aftermarket turbos on hiluxes can be a problem, with too much boost, and overheating. The non turbo 5l, 3ltr is great. Will tow my 7m charter boat easily. My boat and trailer weigh 1150kgs.I hope this helps you.

Stick with the Hilux. You're being very realistic with your load expectancy, and I think you're on the right track.
I have a 6cyl diesel L/cruiser, no turbo, but it tows my 20ft house very well.

Thanks all, your advice makes me feel more confident with sticking with my current vehicle. One less decision to make.
cheers
