Hi all, just wanted to introduce me and him! We are practising 'grey nomads' at the moment, we bought our very first van about 2 years ago, and absoultely love getting away in it! It is parked in the backyard and every time I go down to it I open the door and wish we were someplace else. Hopefully next year we will upgrade to a larger van, newer vehicle and take to the road. I love your website and can't stop reading all the wonderful stories and great articles, please keep up the wonderful job that everyone is doing.
Let me be the first to welcome you, a great time will be had here and much information learned, although there are a few ratbags here as well including me

Hi Eils and WELCOME to the forum. Have been where you are and I must say it felt like the longest year ever BUT it will end and the reward will be realising your dream...so stick to it.

Welcome EilsnAlby
gubby is the number 1 ratbag here, Vic is number 2, goinsoon is number 3
so stay away from these ones and you will be ok, won't be long and you will be on the road.
Welcome to you from one of the "sophisticated" GN's on this forum. Ironically Jim Nabors, aka Gomer Pyle was on the Love Boat this week. He played a naive twit, but boy could that man sing! Keep dreaming, because every day is one day closer to departure. It WILL happen! Keep the dream.

Thanks everyone for your very warm welcome, hope to catch up with some of you sometime in the future. Yes, our van is still fairly new, but we are ready for something bigger with ensuite! My brother is fortunately going to buy the van and vehicle to do his own touring. So next year we are heading to the Perth Camping and Caravan show, hopefully to checkout our next rig. Can't wait!!
I would suggest you shop around before you go to the show. Check the yards, the websites and every other place, even caravan parks and chat to the owners. Do lots of homework before those salesmen get their claws into you and grab your bucks with both hands. Make a decision on the size and style of van and layout you're looking for. If you're looking for a new van you may score a good deal at the show, but if you do the homework beforehand you will have an idea of what's out there and what it costs. You may even find a beaut used van, no longer required by the former owner. Sometimes a good used van has all the teething problems sorted with a few extras added for your convenience. There's no such thing as a bare van. We all make our own adjustments to make life easier.

Hi and welcome EilsnAlby. I went to the show last year and it was the best thing I did. I'd been dithering around not sure what to get, but to have them all there to have a good look thru was great. I didn't buy from there but it settled in my mind what I could handle and would be best for me
I don't think we will be buying at the show, I would like just to go to check them all out, here in Kalgoorlie we are pretty isolated as far as caravans go, i regularly check out the websites for 2nd hand vans, which we will probably buy, and as you said, all the problems should be ironed out after a couple of years. There are some terrific ones on the net, but they seem to mostly be in Vic. NSW or Qld. Unfotunately, we never get to Perth (only if we need medical treatment) which is virtually never TG, so really looking forward to next March!
