House settlement finalised mid August -moved into local C/park as we had a few medical appointments to deal with then off on the great adventure. But still here at Kelmscott, with Barry back in hospital today - clots on both lungs - 3rd hospital admission since 24/8. so looks like we'll be here a bit longer
Cheers Jenny

Hang in there girl. Look after the man, and away you go. Look after yourself so you can look after him, so he can look after you. All the best to you both.

That is not good news. What is the reason for the clots? I am curious because the driver had clotting episodes after both his hip replacements. After the most recent episode - 2009/10 - he is permanently on anti-clotting medication, which complicates travel a bit. However, it is do-able. Good luck!

thanks Wendy- yes he has been on warfarin for 7 yrs and has just had shoulder surgery but Dr's now doing lots of tests to get to the reason for the clots despite the medication regime - they think the warfarin is not working despite high doses
cheers Jenny

One would not expect the clotting issue on Warfarin, that's for sure. Did the shoulder surgery require cutting of bones? That seems to be what sets the driver off - leg bones at least. Hopefully, not others, since he's just had bypass surgery!
There is a new anti-clotting drug that is currently on limited availability; the substance is called dabigitran, one brand name for it is Pradaxa. I know about it because the driver took part in a clinical trial of it last year, instead of being on warfarin. Maybe if the warfarin is not working, your doctor might be able to find out about that as an alternative.

If you can't get onto a drug program through your cardiologist or gp Pradaxa is $150 per month as it is not on PBS yet. I'm on it thank goodness - there are no INR blood tests with Pradaxa.
