Places to stay in SEQld & Northern NSW

Hi all, I'm taking delivery of my Hiace next month, and plan to take my mother (the bionic woman) on a 2 week trial retirement trip in November (I retire next year). I'll be picking her up at Brisbane airport and we want to spend the time away from the city, with towns only being for brief visits. I've previously stayed at a place called Maidenwell? somewhere inland in south Qld, free camping, creek, toilet, bush - perfect.  Anyone know of more places that would fit that sort of description?

Now Jules47 would be the person to ask about that - she lives in the Scenic Rim and works at the visitor information centre.

Thanks everyone, keep the ideas coming! I have the book, but it is always better to hear from others. We hired a campervan in Tassie last year, and the best places were those we found by accident or heard of from others. By the way, I went to the Bay of Fires and couldn't see why it's so highly rated. Did I miss something?

In the Scenic Rim - Bigriggin - Flanagans - The Gorge - (all around the Boonah area) - Kalbar showgrounds is cheap and cheerful and dog friendly - Rathdowney showgrounds pretty good - heaps of other places - will consult some maps and get back to you.

We went through this area over a year ago now & found Boonah Showgrounds was a giant dustbowl & the toilets/showers were bloody filthy, we drove in, had a look, then drove straight back out & went to Kalbar  We found Kalbar Showground a lovely spot to camp, clean & a pleasant place to stay. Just do your shopping in Boona on the way through as there aren't any decent supermarkets in Kalbar.

Cheers

Jon

I dropped into Boonah today to empty the toilet at the dump point and found it well grassed and the toilets were clean as they were on my last two visits this year with our caravan club

Seems we may have got there at a bad time plus maybe since we were last there someone has had a word to management about the facilities.

All sounds good now

Cheers

Jon
