Sounds like the "old halfway house" which we used to visit regularly once upon a time....interesting to note that vans are able to rest for a short time, might be time for a quiet sunday....no quiet weekday drive to check that out.

Hey Whiteman, you're not thinking of Howes Valley, are you??? From a previous thread I put on here about the Putty Rd, I understand it has not been 'there' for quite some time. Will be interesting to head down the Putty Rd as it is hmm ........ some 30 + years since I was last travelling on it.

Pejay...last time I was there it sold fuel, drinks, food hot & cold, and you coulld use the small units and park a van....also toilets & showers were available, so think it might be the same place.
I guy I new bought it some years back, then got out, thought I heard a rumour that it suffered some fire damage a couple of years ago......there is also a small restaurant at Putty which is located off the main road, so unless you drive into Putty Township you would not see the place.
Looks like a trip up there is in order, as we usually take a drive to Colo Heights for coffee & hot food from time to time, then wander down the back road to the river before heading home...lovely drive, no traffic and a nice place to spend some time in bush.
The servo at Colo Heights is under new management. Can't remember the blokes name.....senior moment I have known him for a lot of years.......is not in the best of health evidently.
Last time we were there about 18 months ago the food was very ordinary so maybe the new people will have a bit more zest and good health and get it up and running again like it used to be.
I lived on the Putty Road for quite a lot of years but left there about 25 years ago.
Hey Vic, sounds like you might have driven the track from Putty Road to Dunns Swamp which is not far from Mudgee....either via 3 Ways or the much more difficult Wollimi NP up Mt Wirraba, if you did well done.
Have camped at Gospers near the trig point only once, but many times right on top of Mt Wirraba........sadly that`s a long time ago which no special thanks to the NSW NPS and of course the area in now a declared wilderness area.....so much for progress eh !!
