Our longest trip so far starts next week. We will be travelling down the Hume and heading for Geelong. Does anyone know the condition of this road (for caravans)?
Darling is a Victorian state road so of course it would be fine. Darling Victoria is the premier state where every road is good with great public facilities.

Are you going Violet Town to Bendigo via Rushworth or are you going down the Hume to Geelong. Two completely different roads. The Hume as others have said is a freeway. The other is country roads in great condition. I travel around there all the time.
Thanks for the feedback! We will use the Hume to Violet Town, then across to Bendigo. SWMBO wants to see Maldon and Daylesford. Then we'll head down to the Great Ocean Road and around to McLaren Vale for a week of food and wine with some good friends. Then back along the Murray and home to Sydney.
They are both nice little towns. It was bitterly cold when we were down there earlier this year so didn't stay long in Dayelsford but spent a bit of time having a walk around Maldon. Really enjoyed the atmosphere there.

Hi Connie, all those roads are certainly ok for a caravan, I have travelled them many times. I live in Bendigo and the trip through Daylesford to Geelong is good also. Daylesford is one of my favorite places to visit. If you have time and are there mid week be sure to go to the Hepburn Springs and have a swim. The drive across country to Geelong is well worth doing. I am originally a New South Welshman but I have to admit the roads in vic are a lot netter than ours. I guess being a smaller state they have less to look after. There is a lot to see in Victoria and it is a very beautiful state. Take your time if you can and see as much as you can while your here. For anyone who knows that area, is the Hepburn Spring a hot spring? I'm thinking about planning a Hot Spring Expedition - travelling from spring to spring and just wallow in the ponds.

Hepburn springs is more a resort type springs. They did a huge revamp a little while back and it is quite up market now but I find that if you go mid week it is quieter and less expensive. It is a very special treat I must say. Also there is a lovely free camp just out of daylesford up mountain Franklin on the way across to Daylesford from Bendigo. Has toilets up there and only a short trip to Daylesford via the chocolate shop.......
