I'm one very happy Granny back home after doing 2 pilot jobs out of Melbourne ports. I'm also one very tired Granny, but it's all for a good reason. I was told about pilot work on Sunday morning, I made a phone call and was on the road 2 hours later, heading for Melbourne. I got home about lunch time today, headed straight for bed, and have since unpacked the car and one the washing. Ready to do it all again.

Well, I think Marj I may have been in the vicinity of your neighbourhood. I headed up the Hume to Corawa with a large header. Then I had to high-tail it back to Melbourne to find the next truck and driver loaded with another header heading for Waikerie yesterday. The breakdown delayed our progress so we delivered this morning. I was thinking of you, wondering if I was close, but I had no real way of knowing. I don't know Vic very well, but after this week, a bit better. It's a hard city to learn. The roads a great, the service to transport and travellers via those service centres, are brilliant, and a great place to camp overnight. Toilets, showers, fuel and food. That's a bonus after a long night on the road. We can only take oversize on the road in daylight, but I arrived in Melbourne after midnight on Monday, give or take a state's standard time stuffed up by daylight saving.

Waikerie is in SA on the Murray. The country is looking great everywhere I went. Crops look wonderful, grass is green, sheep are still white, and the farmers and fruit blockies are smiling. The headers are apparently pre-sold. No wonder the dealers were smiling. I didn't see any signs of hand-rubbing, but they're probably doing that in private. 600+ headers at about $650,000 each = A LOT!

CG.You and your wide loads should be made to go by sea.Delayed me from my shoplifting classes at Big W in Shepparton.Good on you Chris nice to see at least one of us working and doing our bit to keep the Illegals in Ciggies etc.Cheers.Marty.
Good on ya Chris - hope more comes your way from this. Once you get to know Melbourne, you will find it is really a very organised place to get around - very directional - if I am in, say, Port Melbourne and need to get to airport - just point the car in that direction, eventually come to a sign that will say "airport" no problem. Corowa has to be one of the coldest places I have every been -saw the funnies thing there once - on a wall in a laneway between a shop and a pub - a sign said "LIVE WIRES - DO NOT URINATE ON THIS WALL" - the mind just boggles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had someone done it, is that how they knew????????????????

It's been a while since you drove in Melbourne Jules - I don't go in that often these days and usually manage to be amazed at the changes each time I do. Getting from the Monash to the Westgate last time was an "experience" to say the least
