He's had a bright idea - help me!

He wants to convert a Hino 7m Pantech to a motorhome.  Anyone know anything about doing this - is it a good idea?

We aren't in a hurry to get going - as of today, I am here for a research project for school, til proably middle of next year.

And what about the truck - reliable?

Can you not see the steam coming out of my ears? If I wasn't so stoked about my research project, he'd be a dead man right about - oh, an hour or so ago...........

Sounds like a top idea but maybe better starting with a tray back and building it from the tray up. Have seen a few truck pantecs done but they still look like a horse float at the end of the day . Depending on what your looking for in the way of looks and style, maybe a secondhand motor home or a bus already converted or even a partial conversion is worth a look

It's a big job doing your own conversion - how many years did you want to wait before hitting the road? I loved my old coaster which I sold a few years ago but now that I will be hitting the road full time have taken the advice of people here and am looking for a caravan.

Hi Rosie,

The more bright ideas you both have the better your plan will become.....keep having good ideas!....

Cheers Sharon

You can have both, I have seen a truck with a (wheel less) caravan on its tray. I spoke to the bloke, the truck could go anywhere. He had room on tray for generator and other stuff. (you could probably fit some sort of removable Balcony to it when parked!!.)

I like the fold out truck pub that the XXXX Angels use....(mmm beer, mmm truck, mmm pub, mmm girls) I reckon this would be the ultimate touring vehicle.

If it was a refrigerated truck just think how cool it will be in Summer and warm in winter.

I have seen several panteck's done and even though they are a box they can be the same as a van inside.

You have a solid base and usually plenty of weight allowance.

Any vehicle on the road is better than working or staying home.

Regards
Brian

Spotted a partially converted bus on the "BUY SELL SWAP" web site for a reasonable price that may suit your needs . BUY SELL SWAP 'is a free local web site like trading post in every state.

Don't do anything! Don't touch anything until you have both researched the idea to exhaustion. The structure, the layout, the cost, the legalities of the prime mover and the pan van. You'll need to do a costing if budget is a consideration. Who will do the work? Plumbing, wiring, furnishing etc. Even colour scheme is important for both of you to decide on.
Yesterday I saw a double decker bus converted to a mobile home with a trailer in tow, with the limo inside (joking).
It certainly looked impressive from the outside. I didn't get to see the inside, so if anyone meets up with this huge, dark grey bus and matching trailer ask nicely and they may let you check it out. Last seen heading east on the Nullarbor.

Here's one we saw on the road a couple of years ago, complete with solar power and washing machine, the round bit on the back is the shower

Seeing it's a tipper body throw a tie-down over it and if pulled up just say it's on it's way to the tip . Reminds me of a Saturday arvo picture show serial the "Video Man" when I was a kid , well before tele came on the scene

Wow I think it's beautiful and similar to what I'd whip up if given the chance.
