Cabana Vans

G'day All

I have seen a few Cabana vans come up on ebay recently. They have a pull down firbreglass bed extension.I've never heard of them and was wondering if anyone had had any experience with them. They look like a good solid and compact van and seem to be reasonably priced.

Cheers

Ellen

Ellen, my daughter and SIL used to have one for quite a few years; it was their very first caravan and served them well.

I also have a friend who's dad used to sell them and the comments have always been positive.

The only problem my daughter had with it was that the front drop down bed used to leak in the rain when traveling. They had a vinyl cover made for it that used to clip over the whole front section when traveling. They have a drop down bed both ends.

They are also pretty heavy and definitely solid, presuming it is still in good condition.

PS....think they paid about $1800 for it about 9 or 10 years ago.

Thanks Barooma - I need to avoid heavy - the larger the ratio of space per weight the better as I will be towing with a 4 cylinder. It's funny how things come up - there are 4 on ebay at the moment and one with a tarp on the front end - perhaps for the purpose of preventing leaks when travelling.

Hi I had one a few years ago and it was a pretty solid little outfit well worth considering. Heavy rain was a problem around the front but from memory a new seal fixed it. We towed it with i SWB pajero with a 2.2 engine so as it was only 10 ft long weight wasn't a problem Keith

I had one  it was a great little van. They come in two sizes and have an incredible amount of space when opend up.

The original Cabana must be close to qualifying as Vintage. The Windsor Rapid and the Jayco Expanda's are a later design of the same thing . Like anything that has a water/ dust seal they will leak over time and need replacing or adjusting from time to time
