Travelling from Lamington NP to Melbourne via the Hunter Valley Blue Mts area

Hi there, I am new to TGN and am hoping I have found a great place to get some real advice on places to see and what roads should never be travelled. smile I just sent my daughter along one that was recomended as a good rd. via a phone call to a local c'park, she's still talking to me but lesson learned to get it from fellow travellers.

We are planning to travell from Lamington NP down to The Hunter valley area we are going to take 4 days to get there and were looking at some of the rds through other NParks as an adventurous route. Then we are heading down to Melbourne slowly via the coast, onto the Ferry to tassie for nearly four weeks. We own camps 6 and it's my bible right now but I am having trouble finding anyone who has used some roads towing a van, we are not scared of wiggly or steep just not fussed on skinny and steep. We towed our van up over Mt. Tamborine from Oxenford and while we made it would not recommend the trip ourselves - when you have to take up both lanes to get round hairpin turns it's a bit tooo wild for meashamed  So if anyone has a story about any of those roads in between the major coastal and inland(Tenterfeild way) I would be really grateful for advice. Thanks Geoff n Jen

Hi there,

Welcome. You've definitely come to the right place.

I can't help you personally, but I have no doubt that you'll have plenty of answers and good advice here.

Ditto...welcome to the site, but I can't help you on that one either. Later this arvo or tonight I'm sure you'll get lots of advise.

I know the road from Oxenford to Mt Tamborine, and no, I wouldn't like to tow a caravan up there.

You're on the right track though...Camps 6 is our bible and/or ask a grey nomad.

Google maps is great planning tool for working out routes and distances.

Go to maps.google.com.au and click on Get Directions in the top left hand corner.

Thanks very much - I have looked at that before but I didn't think it said too much about the route eg. the road condition and what it's like to tow a van over. I will have another look

You're quite right it doesn't give much in the way of road conditions but if you select a route there's sure to be someone on this forum who can then give you the necessary info especially if you nominate specific route sections (eg Woodenbong to Tenterfield say)

Have to agree with you there, a bit like our home town every road eventually takes you to the same place as a horse walkssmile

Inverell and Bingara are worth a "look-see" but not if you only have four days
