Tomorrow night will be interesting, I recently took delivery of a pressure cooker and my first meal will be cooked in Munglinup tomorrow night.
I have bought mince and fresh stir fry vegetables and intend to cook the mince for 16 minutes in water with some herbs added then add the vegetables already cut up for 3 minutes.
I have never bought uncooked meat before and never cooked a main meal other than from a can so it will be interesting. I have just gotten used to the camp kitchens and now have breakfast often using their facilities.
Any comments about my proposed endeavour will be welcome, I will access the internet tomorrow morning before I set off because I do not expect internet at Munglinup National Park.
Stir fry chicken and rice - stir fry seasoned with garlic, chili, soy sauce and oyster sauce. For dessert I defrosted some frozen mixed berries (yum, they're my favourites) and had them with one of the little tubs of Weight Watchers ice cream with chocolate sauce stuff - the Weight Watchers ice cream being easier to store in my tiny freezer than bigger tubs of ice cream.
We're home this week too .. but would probably have the same on the road ...
Steak med rare with extra hot chillie jam for me and sausages for SWMBO with a cob of corn each done in alfoil with wholegrain mustard & garlic. Asparagus spears in olive oil lightly cooked in foil too. Grilled sweet potato slices. A dash of bernaise sauce (out of the tetra pack & done in the microwave).
All on the BBQ on the back deck (except for the sauce) on a balmy Qld evening with a cool sea breeze blowing.
ps rredback .. I'm from Ipswich too (haven't lived there since 1979 though.

Hey John first fry some chopped onion on medium heat until it is golden (maybe 5 min max) then add the mince and fry until it is brown (5 mins again). At the same time add salt peppper and mixed herbs if you have them. You can then add the water and a stock cube if you have one. Another good thing to add is a can of tomatos and you probably will not need the water if you do that. Frying meat and onion brings out lots of flavour. If you just boil the mince it won't have much taste. Good luck, our thoughts are with you.
Ah yes and dinner tonight - someone said it was tuesday but is it not wednesday? In anycase pork sausage and eggs yesterday and tonight a yummy pasta bake cooked by Mrs Blaze. I'm officially on the road for a cople of weeks so can legitimately respond to these posts.
How are you intending to power the pressure cooker yeoeleven?
Marj,
I have bought a small gas ring to fit on top of my reserve gas bottle so that I can take it outside, thought that the escaping steam would be better outside.
Ellen thanks for the tips will decide tonight which way to go, your ideas sound tastier by I bought the pressure cooker to use so I quess that will be the way to go this time.
but the point is everyone is still eating well balanced meals of varied proportions [some with sweets]. Personally im with MA,off to the cafe ...
when we travell 95% of our food is canned veg,a HEAPS of dried food [pasta/noodles and packs of dried peas] and we use our fresh veg first.
Weve only got the 100L 3way fridge so our freezer isnt overloaded BUT its enough meat for a fortnight [next pension payday]
being on a restricted pension we have junkfood every payday [maybe maccas or hot fish/chips] and we purposely coincide our payday to be IN a town of sorts, have early dinner at maybe 4pm then gone to the freecamp.
other than that is meat n vegs for 13 days, leftovers for lunch.
We carry a deep fryer for out of town junk food nights, rice maker gets used Constantly and depending on the meat [i LOVE woolies turkey legs] we have the Dreampot.
TY for sharing everyone. im learning more everyday.
Cheers Rod
