In Winton tonight guys and on line for a short while only.

Went out and had a look at the Long Water Hole.....very, very low water.  Not camping there tonight.

Very disappointed with Walkabout Creek Pub......not open, closed up tight as a drum.  Totally peeved, I am.

Loved going back and seeing Blue Heeler in Kynuna which used to be the Kynuna Pub when my mother ran it many years ago.  Bit of a nostalgic trip for me today.

That was to have been one of my highlights......last time I was there was way before the Crocodile Dundee fame and I wanted to do the tourist thing and have another look.

What a shame, we had a couple of drinks there when we were on our way to moving to Darwin...............

Looks like the lifesaver's chair/tower has been removed from the front of the Blue Heeler.

We camped on the waterhole over the ridge from it in 2000, in the days when Richard Magoffin OAM ran a Waltzing Matilda show there.  Great character RIP. & great show.

I have a bit of gidgee from there that i hang on to as a as a keepsake. I got it from the woodbox at the Blue Heeler in 2006.  Great firewood & looks nice too with its dark hard wood center & white sapwood.

More nostalgia for me today.  Managed to find the boarding school I attended in Winton and the boarding students building (dorm, food hall etc) is still there.  The original church and school have been replaced.

Even managed to get confirmation of my enrolment in the school....

Unfortunately, the hospital where my brother (now deceased) was born has been replaced so that was abit of a disappointment.  He always wanted to return to see his birthplace so I guess I was doing it for both of us

I am told that after the govt spent a huge amount of money on the new hospital....there is still no resident Dr, no dentist and no birthing allowed.  Expectant mothers have to travel elsewhere to have their babies.

Makes you wonder why, doesn't it??

We camped in the freebie at the rear of the North Gregory Hotel.

Asked at the Info Centre if there was still free camping there as it no longer appears in the CAW6.  I was informed that 'she' no longer allows it and was advised to go into one of the CPs.

The attitude was less than friendly at the Info Centre so I decided to go and ask at the NG and found that free camping is still available.

We went to have a drink (appreciation for the free camping) just before 8 last night, only to be told the pub was closing...no drinks available!!  Looked at the pub across the road and the patronage there was still going strong....message here you think??

Next morning on my trek about town chatting etc I found that the current owners/manages are pretty unpopular for one reason or another BUT the good news is....new owners are on their way.

Looked at the Long Waterhole and it is very low and with rain threatening, we decided to camp in town.

I can't believe this, we overnighted at the NG hotel when we were on our way moving to Darwin, (2006) had a shower and bought a couple of drinks also, what a small world it is.

everything is changing, the attitude towards travellers by CP's are IF you want to stay here then YOU pay what i want irrespective of whats advertised in travell Books.

Attitudes towards travellers are changing toward freecamping supposedly by CP owners hitting councils to make us again use the CP instead.

This is my opinion and if im right its pretty accurate. Am i the only one that feels as tho its greed driven...
