Travelling in the Snowy Region?

Hi All,

After our sojourn in Canberra coming up, we thought we would like to travel through the Snowy Region (to also climb Mt Kosi) on our way to Corowa to meet up with a friend, before heading back north and home.

However, we have read that the road from Jindabyne, through Thredbo to Khancoban is very narrow and windy, (then onto Cooryong and Wodonga) - has anyone travelled this way with a van of late please, and if so, what are your opinions of taking a van over this route.

The 'Beast' with the 'Woodshack' in tow handled the windy roads in Tassie OK, so how would this route compare?

The sign at Thredbo says road not suitable for caravans.
When I ventured that way a few years back the ranger on the NP gate told me I was not to go any further than Thredbo Village.
The following year we did the trip through to Kancoban etc without the van.
The sign was still there and after driving the route I would say that a medium van would do it OK, but at very low speeds as the declines are extremely steap and some corners very tight.
I doubt I would enjoy it with the van on the back.

This year we did the Snow Valleys Way from Tumut through Tumbarumba then a short side trip into Kancoban and onto Corryong, Tallagatta and Wodonga.
Fabulous drive with three excellent free camp spots just south of Tumbarumba.
Cheers, ozjohn.

Thanks Ozjohn,

That certainly has made the choice a lot easier for us.

Cheers, Pejay
