I suppose many members started out being guests and just couldn't resist the urge to join. Looking in from the outside can be informative and even interesting, but there's nothing like being here, there, or wherever. Take a leap of faith and please join us.

I don't know how many others are like me in this respect but I don't often sign in unless I have a contribution to make by making a post. I often just visit the website and do some reading and as such would only show up as a guest when in fact I am a member. This could be skewing the figures a bit if many others do the same.
No, if you are a member you would show as a member. Guests are those who havent joined/filled out a profile, and can only read. Pity we cant persuade more of them to join and tell us about themselves, and their travels.
How about you, Gary, where have your travels led you? What did you like/dislike? Or what are your plans?
Hello Gerty (Rosie) Just had a look at your profile. I wasn't aware that I would be recognised as a member without logging in. Thanks for the info. I won't be able to remain anonymous the way I thought I was. We are not really seasoned travellers as some of you others are, but intend to be ASAP. That is if governments and oil companies don't put too many more obstacles in the way. I have retired from work but my wife has not yet so we are in preparation mode for a while. In the meantime we get away whenever we can for shorter term trips. We've done a fair bit up the east coast of Qld. over the years and recently did Uluru via western Qld. and Tennant Creek etc. Then back home through Port Augusta and western NSW. into Qld. again. I'm afraid larger population centres have lost their gloss for us and we mostly like to head for the scrub. Don't like crowds, or modern day attitudes in a large sector of the population, resulting in some of the horror stuff you see on the news every day. Unfortunately it takes a while to feel financially secure enough to take the plunge and cut yourself off from income and hit the road properly. Hopefully there will be enough people, like most members here, out there preserving it for us for a bit longer and not killing off the goose that laid the golden egg the way they have by development of most of the coastal areas where they could see profits to be made. Also it sounds as if we may be doing what we do in the same van as you have. Keep leaning forward.
I wasn't aware of that either Gerty. I thought you had to log in to be seen as a member and if you just went in and perused the forum you registered as a guest
Actually, now that you mention it.... I dunno now! I'm always logged in on our computer, so its automatic, but if you have not logged in I suppose you wouldnt show up as a member.
Reading Garys posts, I think if you come in without logging in you would show up as a guest. I have a permanent log in so I always show up when I come in here but others may not. I can't see how you would show up at all if you don't log in. You would have to show up as a guest, so to me that would mean the figures would be fudged slightly. Never thought people would be doing it that way, but if so its up to them.

I was on here as I guest last night. I stayed around at my daughters to look after the dog while they were away, so used her lap top. I didn't want to log in on hers and muck up what she had there so just came in as a guest. I did find it quite annoying as I couldn't tell what I had already been in and read, so had to go by times on the posts. So much easier being logged in and could reply to a post as I wished also instead of just thinking what I wanted to say and not saying it.
I've just registered as a new forum member. Over the last couple of years I've been one of those guests who visited every now and then. Have found the site full of really good info, particularly when we were travelling. We were on the road for 16mths with a camper trailer. We are back in NSW again working so we can afford to go again.
