Barkly Council new free camping policy.

I read Cindie's article on the Barkly Councils new policy with interest.

I welcome their new enlightened policy but would not stay at Elliott because the last time I passed through there the town was full of drunks at 1pm in the afternoon on a weekday.

Tennant Creek was having a problem with feral kids throwing stones at caravanners so it will not get my business either.

I stay at either Wycliffe Wells or Wauchope, Banka Banka then Dunmarra - all of which are well run parks and clean facilities.

Until they get a handle on the drinking problem,  I will just fill up with fuel and move on and the two towns miss out on cash flow and free camping policy will not alter a thing.

Its enough to make you grumpy.

Cheers,

John.

GD: - Your right there are good free camps in the areas but I choose to stay in C/Parks because the free parks have very little shade and you have to be in them before about 2pm otherwise your lucky to get a spot.

Then you slow cook until the sun goes down.

Everytime I've been up there the temperature has been in the high 30oC+.

Cheers,

John

Each time we go near Tenant Creek we stop at The Outback Caravan Park & we have never had any trouble.

We go there for 2 reasons, to replenish supplies and fuel.

Fuel is usually 10 cents per ltr cheaper than at 3 ways and as our vehicle hold up to 200 ltrs the saving we make pays for the caravan park. We usually fill up at Mt Isa and TC is our next refuel. Coming the other way Fill at Alice then TC.

We usually camp out the night before and arrive at around 10am book in then unhook tug and do the shopping etc. If the vehicle requires a service or anything other than fuel I prearrange this before arrival.

Then the next day we have an early start for the next leg.

We have visited T/creek many times and have seen all sites on offer.
