Scam???

Hi Guys,

In our local papers last week, we advertised our tinnie for sale (want to get the one with the pointy nose) and got a couple of phone calls about it, BUT this morning we received a text message from a guy wanting us to reply by email ONLY. We did, gave the price we were going to be happy with etc etc. He said he was a petroleum engineer off-shore and wanted to pay by Palpay only, and he wanted us to get a Palpay a/c ourselves (which we don't have). He intented to buy it - definitely - sight unseen!! He mentioned his Paypal account is linked to his bank account and obviously there are no banks on the rig.

Rang our bank manager - sure wasn't going to give him our bank details - he thought it sounded like a scam, and after the guy put a link to Paypal for us to open an 'account', we decided to get in touch with Paypal direct and ask their advice. They suggested we forward the emails to them to check if its a scam - have not heard back from them, nor have we heard from this guy since this morning.

Scam?? We think it most probably is. Would be interested in your thoughts.

Just about everyone who advertises a car, boat or van in the trading post gets that scam.

My daughter in law got six when she advertised her car (still for sale)

It is a scam. There was something similiar on here only about a week ago. They used the same request.

Its definately a scam. I traced the call I had to USA! Then I contacted the bfederal police. Its a standard scam and WC Fields was right when he said there was one born every minute. Don,t be caught!Bill

Don't think you will get very far with the AFP Pejay. This is happening everyday and there doesn't seem to be much they can do about it. As I saw on a current affair program the other day, if the culprits are overseas, the authorities can't touch them.

My friend who it happened to lost many thousands and still can't get any satisfaction.
