It is with regret that we are moving on in the morning.
We have spent some great days here with Mr and Mrs Florinhill. Their hospitality is way up there.
We have had some great happy hours and at least one VERY happy hour, well the two blokes did, but they did earn it I must say................lovely trout for dinner and you sure couldn't get them any fresher.
The outlook is so calm and tranquil, with the cattle in the paddocks, the view to the coast and the peace and quiet, I haven't slept so well in many years.
Thankyou Bob and Rhonda, we know we have made two more friends who will always be in our thoughts.
Now, heading East, destination unknown. We will know when we get there.
It's one destination on my bucket list, but the problem is how to go - take the van on the ferry, fly over and hire, take the Cruiser and camp, or van park cabins, or B&B's, or whatever is available. Any clues?

We figured that because we would only get one crack at it we would make it worthwhile (both time wise and cost wise) and come for three months.
Yes, it isn't cheap coming over on the boat with a set up the size of ours, but there are some really nice "freedom" camps around Tassie and some really nice fellow nomads who can either steer you in the right direction or as in Florinhill offer their establishments for a camp over.
The fly drive cabin/motel option would have been way too expensive if we wanted to do the same amount of time and see as much of this lovely place as we would wish.
Same applies to fly/hire camper van.
If you are happy with camping (sans van) then yes that would be the cheapest alternative and again utilise the "freedom" stops and hospitality of your fellow nomads.
B & B's didn't even enter into the equation for us.
Thanks for the tips. I think taking the van would be the most independent option. I agree at least 6 weeks minimum to do the place justice. I'll get there one day. I might even get an escort job over there - in my dreams. It would be good though. Never know where this job takes me. Have fun you 2 and keep us posted. It sounds absolutely magnificent. Thanks for the descriptive description.

when we went Chris we did a fly drive certainly not enough time to see all we wanted to see and found it was expensive next time we go will take the van although dread the thought of driving on some of those moutainous roads especially Elrphant Pass beaut place to be though like Ma Blue if you go you really need to make it worth while and take the three months over there. A couple of years ago, the vintage car club had the Australian get together and a three week rally around Tasmania.
Carrying three weeks of clothes etc, for all occassions,(driving, bbq's and formal dinners) in a 1928 Austin 7 roadster, was always going to be an impossible task.
However, we managed and to make the trip more interesting I put it to the "treasurer" that we should stay in B&B's that where at least the same vintage as the car.
Can honestly say, that the work some people put in to restore old homes and mansions to there former glory is astounding.
We had a ball and would recommend it to anyone, some of the breakfast's bordered on being a years supply of food.
We decided not to move on today. It's steady rain and fog, or low cloud, and it seems the rain is widespread so better off to stay put for the time being.

We avoided doing the Elephant Pass with the van, by staying on the coast and doing day trips into the hinterland. Also avoided the Weldborough Pass between Scottsdale and St Helens by taking the Bridport-Gladstone-Ansons Bay route. Some of this was unsealed but well maintained, then. That is a bit of an out of the way corner up there and well worth exploring.
I was there couple monts ago with Rozi...We just went with Jackaroo and tent...$900 return with a cabin and insurance...Powerd sites between $14and $16...All my friends sad "dont take the van"and after traweling for ten days there I understod why...Thats not to say that there wosent any vans there...we seen many...so its realy your own choise...
We had a ball...i haw lumps in my throat just thinging about it...defenetly must go back ASAP...
Seems like we might just stay put for another day as the wind is rather strong and the "earth moved" last night.........no smart comments now you guys.... , well the van sure did..............maybe I better quit while I'm ahead......
Great photos spooky, Tassie is the one place or state that we have not been to YET............soon hopefully.
Thanks Pauline...10 days was a complite rip of......It only left us heart broken...Rozi is demanding 10 weeks to make up for the paine and sufering......Spooky likes her way of thinking...

10 days is just a drop in the bucket for a place like Tassie. There is so much to see and do and that's why we decided to do 3 months and even then we won't see all of it I don't think.
We've had a lot of wind and rain and cold temperatures in the 10 days we have been here but that is just an insight into the place and it's seasons. Certainly hasn't detracted from our enjoyment and enthusiasm to see more.
You certainly won't be sorry Pauline it is a great place. Just make sure you allow enough time to do it justice
I'm hoping to go there next summer and will leave the caravan stored and just take the 4wd ute which will have a 190w solar panel on the canopy powering a 44lt fridge, and will camp out with the doggos in a tent. I will spend at least 2 or 3 months there
Tassie - we have done a couple of flying visits, just a couple of weeks in hotels/motels with a hire car, but it gave us a taste for the place.
We have booked a ferry passage across to the Apple Isle for 9th Feb next year and this time we will be taking the Troll and the caravan and staying for a couple of months. Ferry fares are not cheap - it cost us over $800 for the one way ticket (there was no benefit to buying a return ticket and we don't know when we will want to return anyway. for that money we are taking the Troll and our 12' long off road caravan. both of them are over the 2.1 metre point where the cost goes up.
We are counting down the days until we head off - 51 as of today. Our last day here will be 18th January.
