Hi, I just read in the times that Julia pays $1,000 rego. for her van. My goodness. Is it a huge bus or what? i have a 17 foot van and if those charges comes to my state I will simply be selling the van. How much do others pay and for what size van? thanks.
Rego in NSW for a pensioner is free for one vehicle per person, as a couple you can have tow vehicle reg in his name & caravan in wife name ,or vise versa, that gives you both units free.

So NSW might not be to bad after all, if you have a new van and tug, upgrade every 5 years you dont even have to worry about a pink slip.
For van and tug all we pay is around $300 for a green slip.
In SA the caravan is registered as a trailer about $60 a year. The vehicle is a different matter. I did investigate changing over to SA as my vehicles are still registered in WA despite the act I left in 2007, but I don't think so. As an itinerant I don't have to change over to the state of "residence" as I'm not a permanent resident. Victoria is supposed to be cheap to register as well. Stay in a state for 3 months, change over and away you go. Time for national standard rego's.

Let's be careful about a national rego scheme . . . we'll end up with the charges being set at the highest level, rather than the good rates which apply in WA. The ACT charges seem to be ridiculous. They're nearly as much as the new Speaker of the House claims for expenses EVERY DAY! Cheers, Tony
