G'day Monica and welcome

I am not on the road yet but plan to start out as a solo traveller in March/April and am having trouble controlling my very itchy feet.

There are lots of creative and wise people on the forum with all sorts of skills. I'm sure you will get lots of tips.

Hi Monica, welcome to the forum.

We walk lots- having the dogs along ensures that. Always have a book on the go, and I usually have a knitting or crochet project. We usually also have a jigsaw on the go (at home and in the van).
However our main hobby is genealogy, and that keeps us busy in lots of ways, from collecting data, finding cemeteries, sorting and indexing photos etc.

Happy hour fills a few hours as well...lol

Hi,

Personally I love reading but carrying the books around is not viable so I use Audible where you can download books to your laptop,SD card,GPS if able.

Means I have many hours of entertainment.You can get three full novels on a 1 gig SD card or download them to Windows media.

Every genre and Audible is a subsidiary of Amazon so pretty reliable and safe.

Theres a lot of time spent with maps and internet researching the old question of "where to next"?
We also do a lot of walking (sans dogs, but I love Jons idea), bird-watching, reading, (yes, old-fashioned books from op-shops), photo-sorting, eating and drinking etc.
We took some craft items with us on our last trip and brought them home untouched.

Great! Thanks for the ideas - never thought of carrying a leash. Reminds me of the fellow who dragged a cabbage along on a leash - thought it was a cauli! I have been downloading MP3 books in preparation. I'll also be doing a lot of 'where to next' as I don't want to plan much in advance. I'm looking forward to the trip and probably crossing paths with some of you. Monica

I am a Spinner so I have invested in a traveler wheel so I plan to spin up a enough for my next knitting project it's also the only time we read.

I crochet, do puzzles, read, do a bit of photography, people watch, and talk to others who may be in the same park.
Maybe I should take a dog leash as well. Very funny Jonathan.

Reading books, crosswords & embroidery & also playing cards if I can find some one else who likes that. My chauffeur likes bird watching (the proper feather type) & photographing them & fishing. Otherwise I can chat until the cows come home.

Reading, photography, sudoku puzzles, hardanger embroidery (takes a long time to finish a piece!), bird spotting - we have a bird book and mark where and when we first saw each one, walking, keeping a daily diary (you could do a daily blog).

I enjoy a good game of Cribbage but the wife doesn't play and she reckons if she put a cap on a fence post I would stand and talk to it all day.

I love reading a good book, bird watching, fishing and photography, not too keen on embroidery though, happy with a crossword puzzle or a codebreaker. Enjoy walking in the bush and quietly watching the wildlife around the area.

I am into photography and bird watching and walking in the bush as well as watching the river run by, the girls walk by ( I still do have a memory), anything that moves in our beautiful country. I am also working on my family tree, as well I carry a wood lathe and make ornamental firewood. (if no one wants it I burn it).

Just happy parked out in the bush on my lonesome enjoying the country.

Yes Elaine the one thing we do have plenty of out here in the West is space and serenity. The big trouble is mankind.

The Kimberley is about the most magical place I have been, there is something about it that gets into one's blood and it seems to call you back time and time again.

Sounds like me too, but when we go out fishing in 'The Tub', whilst 'imself is fishing, I take my tackle box (got to keep up appearances you know!) with my embroidery in it - have a ball. We also have young (?) Crosby T. Bear (T. for Teddy) travelling with us, and his journal of his 'mis-adventures' (with photos) gets emailed to our grandchildren along the way - they love it. He has a beanie and blanket for the colder climes!!!

Wow! What a busy lot of people doing nothing - LOL! I'm planning to start with a few weeks in Tassie then a couple of months across the southern part of Victoria and South Australia. I will be back on 'school duty' in July - time to start planning the next trip, then.

My wife and I will be in Tassie from 10th Feb next year, meeting up with my brother and his wife (who are coming down from Brissie) and hanging around for a couple of months. Or until we can't handle the weather down there - it will be a bit of a change from Darwin!

If you fancy we could meet up somewhere for a chat and a cuppa (or a glass of wine if you are anything like my wife and my SIL) and exchange experiences etc.
