I have just updated to 4G from telstra turbo 3G, does seem a fair bit quicker and got a good deal........because I have home phone and mobile with Telstra I get this for 29.95 a month for 4 GB, with the pre paid one it was costing $50 a month for 3GB, and when we get on the road and cancel home phone they can't take this off me, sounded good to me what does everyone think.
The girl who sold it it to me B said they definately cannot change the price on me........so time will tell I suppose. It is a 24 month contract but by then it will probably be cheaper knowing my luck.

Fingers and paws crossed for you Pauline but again I was told that once you disconnect your home phone or mobile, you are breaking the original contract and therefore they can do what they like.
For your sake, I hope I am wrong or that the info given to me is incorrect.
I had one too on a 2 yr plan. If I cancelled my home phone, I had to pay the cost of the Turbo Stick. Things could have changed. My 2 yrs is up end of Jan. Not sure what it will cost to continue on with the original stick. At present mine is $40 for 7 gig a month. Telstra plan.

You should be ok, unless they change it.
We moved to the $29 plan @ 3G a few months back, the requirment was you needed to have two or more services on the one acc, so you should be able to drop one of them,
Have now moved to 4G at no eatra cost.

I changed mine only about a month ago from 3G to 4G. Said to be the same price. $29.95 a month from $49.95 which is what I had before as I had a 3 in 1 account. I was also getting a discount on my home phone of 20.00 a month bringing that down to 9.00. They were called two totally different things, loyalty what ever etc. Well what do you know, when my first account after came in my bill was 20.00 a month more than what I had been paying every month for quite some time. I rang them, was on the phone for 1hr 10 min. At the end of it the only thing they could work out was because I had the 2 discounts and because they were phasing one out as soon as I changed my plan it automatically ditched one of the discounts. I went off my stack as I tend to do when something has gone wrong and I am now being charged more than I should. Because they weren't able to reinstate it they have given me a credit of $140. to get me through to June when my contract runs out. Then I will be able to choose a more favourable contract as there is sure to be some new ones out by then, she said. Hope yours hasn't gone the same way pauline.

That's where the problems come in....you have mobile, landline and Internet which means you qualify for particular set of discounts ie 3 services....once you change those dynamics Telstra are able to do what they like.
My understanding is that you will cancel the landline when you go on the road, which means you will not qualify for the same set of discounts, as you will then only have 2 services with Telstra, not the same 3 services that you started with and the contract is for.
Thats a different 4G guys. The one we are talking about is the amount you can use on your internet, 4 Gigs limit. The one you are thinking about is the new mobile which is 4G.
Edit: Should make that a bit clearer. The one you are thinking of is the Mobile Broadband dongle its called a 4 G.
The one we are talking about is the usage which is 4Gb.

No people what I have is 4G with 4GB allowance, if 4G is not available in an area it reverts back to 3G so you don't lose connection, have looked at contract again and it does not mention home phone or mobile on it, max pay is $698 over 2 years or if you cancel............will still go and check at store tomorrow though.
Thats ok Doug, we all get confused with the term 4G as I did when my friend first told me about it. I thought she was talking about the other too until I checked it out.
That's the whole idea - to keep us confused. I have separate plans for mobile and internet. I don't have home phone. They tried to combine my bills, but that added so much confusion I almost had a nervous breakdown. I was paying the bill, they were crediting the wrong account. I'd get a final notice for my phone bill although I'd paid it, but it went to internet credit. So I'd paid the internet twice, but the phone was overdue all the time. So now I get separate bills by email, and even that causes problems. My internet bill is $40 a month, 4 gigs. auto debit from my account. I pay the phone bill when it comes in, but I still get confused when they email the bill and don't specify if it's the internet bill or the mobile phone bill. I missed a month's bill, and got a warning to pay forthwith. I've explained their billing titling on the email is confusing, but they haven't fixed it. Unfortunately Telstra/Bigpond has the best coverage for everything so I'm bound to them I don't trust a few of the other providers anyway. So better the devil I know. Get separate bills, separate accounts. Don't let them con you into combining accounts. You'll never win.

CORRECT, Ralph. They can do what ever they want to us but we can't do anything we are stuck with what we have. I agree with you Chrissy, the devil you know. It's not only phone etc providers. When you book a plane ticket on-line you have to "Tick" the box to agree with conditions etc very early into the booking and to continue through the process, if you don't "Tick" the box you can't continue, stuck with it again.

Regarding 4G coverage i was told there would be 150 regional sites covered by 4G by xmas. Go to telstra.com/coverage and the dark blue shaded bits are 4g.
The girl who sold it it to me B said they definitely cannot change the price on me........so time will tell I suppose. It is a 24 month contract but by then it will probably be cheaper knowing my luck.
Bigpond don't change the price, they take the $10 Reward discount from you for having a landline. Get $10 for having mobile phone account and $10 for landline on a single bill. Bigpond have never put up the price for existing accounts. If price does go up all accounts remain on same pricing regardless if you are in contract or not. Refer to Bigponds grandfather policy. If Bigpond reduce the price even while under contract they will let you change plan without penalty.
The 4G modems are terrible for reception in medium to low signal areas and congested towers. 4G modems are what we call 'city only modems'. Wont connect or wont stay connected and go from email only to perhaps been able to get a web page up in medium to low or congested towers. With external aerial coverage of 4G modem compared to ZTE, Maxon, Huawei or Cmotech would be around 55%. 4G presently capital cities and main regional towns.

150 regional sites in this country is but a mere drop in the ocean.
For a company like Telstra they should have the whole project rolled out and coverage fully functional before selling something that is incomplete to the public.
Then they hide behind the 'wording' in their blurb....90% of the population...and where does this polulation live??

Thanks Duckster, you are right, my quote was incorrect....it is 99% of Australians.
Quote from the Telstra website.
The network now provides mobile broadband access to 99 per cent of Australians, spanning city to country including many remote coastal and rural communities.

Went and checked out contract today, they said they can't change the cost even if I get the home phone disconnected.............so will just have to wait and see.
