Currently have a Dometic B3000 Plus in a 20ft van, only 12months old,
USELESS!!!! Have only travelled SE Aust to SW Aust so far, cannot cool van with Dometic. Have been advised Air Command Cormorant may be way to go. Appreciate any input or advice before heading north. Dometic defintitely would not handle hot weather.
get the air con checked out before heading off, we have a dometic in the tardis , motor home was in kimba (SA) a couple years back , 40odd degrees and it was great, ..
Thanks, have had it looked at under warranty, reckoned it working to capacity but still taking hours to cool and NOISY. had looked at independently and same.
My Australian made roof top Air Command (Wren) has worked a treat for 13 years.
In the real hot country we sometimes leave it on during the day while we are out. Come home to a cool van. Not to green I suppose.
Have even used it to cool the annex area when using that area for visitors. Just open the awning side windows.
I run it regularly .. at least once a month. Even carried out repairs on a noisy internal fan & busted external fan mounts. Simple design & construction.

I was going to suggest that your installation maybe a little "dodgy" (perhaps a Jayco standard installation?) and they you should look at the routing of the cooling air over the heat exchanger, but if Jonathon is getting the same issue then perhaps it is indeed the poor quality of the Dometic.
One day we will probably get a van with a/c. At the moment we just use a fan, but being Darwin residents we are acclimatised to warmer weather so perhaps we won't need it.
Ours is a Dometic too, don't think it's very good either - noisy and the heater is rubbish, it will only just take the chill off the air after it's been going for a while and you freeze worse till it warms up. They say it is working how it should. Haven't tried it in the heat yet though.
We have an Ibis Aircommand, reverse cycle. It is brilliant, used extensively on both heating and cooling over the last 12 months around Aus. Also has a dry cool function for humid weather. We found we were also able to run the air con with our Honda 2 geni if everything else electrical was off. Had a Heron 2.2 in our last van, was efficient but noisy. Good luck ledavidson Cheers Glenda
