Rob and I are on the road now till March because I need to get home to register my car. (left at home while we are away) The van needs to be registered then too. What do you do when registration is due? We live NSW.
Dont know about NSW, but in ACT you can leave your car unregistered in the garage at home for 12 months. Any longer than that it has to go over the pit and do a lot of paperwork. I left my car unregistered for 4 months and saved some money.
Here in Vic you can pay your rego online with Bpay. There was a similiar thread to this only a few weeks ago with lots of ideas from different states.

Here in NSW for rego to occur, the vehicle must be inspected by a registered motor mechanic if it is over three years old and a pink slip issued. Cant get rego without this.
i went to the RTA NSW site to try for an answer for you, but can't find anything. If you don't need a pink slip, you can do it all on line, but nor sure where you would get the pink slip inspection done.
I thought I had seen someplace that you can register your vehicles for longer periods to cover interstate travel, but couldn't find it today.

NSW you only have 3 months after the due date to get your car registered, after that a blue slip is needed.
To get NSW rego for a car or van interstate you need to find a mechanic that has the qualifications to do an inspection. I remember in Perth there were only about 6 & it cost about $80. For a van you also have to get a gas certificate which will cost over $50. Then the rest should be able to be done over the phone, we did it that way in Qld & WA.

Should never ask ages, peoples (particularly a ladies), or that of vans or cars. BUT! I reregistered both the van & the truck while in Darwin. Both less than 3yrs old (there I go giving away their age), so don't need inspection. In NSW as a pensioner you are eligible for free registration of one vehicle, so the truck is registered with my wife & the van with me. We maintain a mailing address at our son's, he sent the notification papers through to us c/- appropriate PO & I reregistered on line. Wasn't a problem, but that could be age related.

We registered our car & motorhome from outer state this year (We are Qld rego). Did it by phone. (as our M/H has to have an annual inspection we had that done in a WA inspection place & faxed copy to Qld dept of transport - no trouble.
Both our vehicles are over the age limit of not requiring an annual inspection, we are over that age too !! We have a Holden Rodeo tug, Ford car (mine) and caravan, so one of these has to be paid registration. Have to plan better next year.
Depends on the age of your vehicles. If they are under 5 years old just renew online. If they arn't you have a problem. You will need a roadworthy. Like old briney said you do have three months. I have had no trouble getting a roadworthy in QLD or NT

In NSW that is true, but it is illegal to drive (or tow if it's a trailer) except to an inspection station. After 3 months the rego lapses and the plates must be handed in.
If planning to register before the receipt of your renewal notice it is necessary to contact RTA.
