pros and cons for a slide on

Hi all hope everbody had a good christmas day.

I am still in the process of deciding which way to go re the rig, now looking at large slide ons.

Thought about when the vehicle needs repairs or service where do you live if its your full time home.

Are the slide ons safe from theft if left at camp, is it posible to secure it so it cant be loaded onto another truck?

I will be traveling solo with just the dog (gracie )

I would welcome all input positive and negative

Brother in law has a slide on, when camped up for a couple of days he takes it off and lowers it to the ground. As far as being safe from theft you can only do so much, if someone else wants it bad enough they will take it, all you can do is minimise the risk and that goes for all things.
cheers

I have a slide on , and I find it great, except for the legs that come with it are a bit flimsy, and the tray on the 4wd ute is a bit high. They are best with styleside utes, 2wd is prefered as the tray is lower, and easier to load.I am thinking of getting a mazda bt50 2,5 diesel 2wd as they get great fuel economy, and the power is good. I have a wine fleeway and its very comfortable.A toilet and a shower would be nice but not essential. You really don,t need a 4wd,except on the beach. Its really nice to be able to remove the camper, and be able to use the ute.Bill

Bill, friends tow their caravan with a mazda BT50. They're very happy with economy etc, but it's not really a comfortable ride. Although in my experience, all twin cab utes seem to give a rough ride.

I was looking at a single cab or style side s/c.A friend has a bt50 with the smaller 2.5ltr diesel, and gets up to 13klms to the litre(35mpg!). The ride is better with the camper on the back, and I am putting helper springs on the back, as the winnabego is heavy. Now all I need is the money. The courier I have at the moment isn,t bad.Bill
