Police investigate body at Bendigo showgrounds

27 Dec, 2011 09:05 AM

Update

POLICE have charged a 41-year-old woman with murder after the death of a man at Bendigo showgrounds.

A 55-year-old Bendigo man was found dead around 4.25pm yesterday.

Veronica Hudson has been remanded and will appear before the Bendigo Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Earlier

HOMICIDE squad detectives were last night investigating a death at Bendigo showgrounds.

A mans body was found at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds at 4.25pm yesterday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a 41-year-old woman was last night assisting police with their inquiries.

Initial reports suggested the man was stabbed.

Bendigo uniform officers and detectives interviewed campers while the homicide squad travelled from Melbourne, arriving about 8.30pm.

Campers gathered in huddles while Bendigo police completed their preliminary investigations.

Officers cordoned off an area near an amenities block on the southern side of the showgrounds.

A body, with a white sheet on top, was underneath a small tree while police spoke with campers.

The body was near a blue and green dome tent.

Another six campsites with vans were set-up within the grounds.

A State Emergency Service crew put up an orange tarp along a fence on Kookaburra Avenue. A marked police car prevented people from entering the Kookaburra Avenue entrance to the showgrounds.

Neighbours were looking through the fence and cars stopped briefly while police investigated the scene.

We stayed there earlier this year, some tent dwellers, a woman and five kids were living in a blue and green dome tent paid for by Dept of Housing as emergency accomodation.
I wonder if....................................
Dont be put off by this it is a good spot to explore the area from. It even had a free washing machine.
