Camping at Thredbo

I would like to see thredbo in April and wondered if anyone has ever camped there.

If so, could you tell me your experience and maybe some helpful tips.

Theres a nice caravan park at Sawpit Creek, saw it a couple of days ago but havent stayed there. (yet!)

You can camp at Tom Groggins about 25km,s away from Thredbo beside the Murray river where its just a little stream. We camped there a few years ago and loved it. Dirt road, might need to check conditions before you go.

Theres also a campground beside the Thredbo River inside the National Parks toll-booth on the right as you head uphill to Thredbo. It looked idyllic but the track down to it is steep, could be tricky for your motorhome.

It could be fairly cool at night in April. Enjoy!

We have just camped through this area. We stayed at the Tourist Park in Cooma (quite cheap and 7th night free) and drove up to Thredbo from here. Also stayed at Kosciuszko Mountain Retreat at Sawpit Creek ($33 per night) to access Charlottes Pass, these are both caravan parks and we had powered sites, cheaper for non powered.

We also bush camped at at Ngarigo, Tom Groggin and Geehi Camp Grounds. We had the Annual Pass which covered Kosciuszko National Park and camping was free, otherwise you have to pay a $16 per 24 hr entry fee. All campsites were on the river and very nice.

We went to the information centre in Jindabyne and they were very helpful also.

Hope this helps!

Were considering staying at Sawpit Creek next week once we leave Canberra, but at $40/nt, we are giving it a miss. Thought this was 'supposed' to be their 'off-season'!!

There wasnt many there on Boxing day, but apparently the whole area fills up from now till the end of school hols. Then it will be "off season" till Easter. Its difficult to find a quiet place to go at this time of year! Good luck Pejay!

With a pension card you can get into Kosciuszko free, think it might be so for all NSW Nat Parks.
