Grey Nomad Stickers

I put this topic in the solo's site but should be here for all nomads

Ken

seeing that we are getting a lot of newbies,it may be of interest to them that there are Grey Nomad Stickers that can be obtained from Cindy to be put on one's car,van ,motorhome which give us some advanced warning that we are in the company of other nomads.

It gives any easy start talking point when we see the sticker in a park or free camp,or even in a shopping centre

Ken

some even go overboard and have big ones made

Cindy is the Webmaster

It was also discussed by a group of GN's recently to have flags which can be hoisted in camp, or when free camping so other GN's can be identified.
We almost missed meeting other nomads at Greens Lake because it was hard to find them amoung 1000 other campers.
So now we can all play "spot the Grey Nomad" on our travels.
To be honest, in spite of the distribution of the stickers, and carrying them, I haven't met any as a result.
I have met some because they've identified my car, but not because of the stickers.
The sticker design is great and very distinguishable from a distance because of the colour configuration, but they are wide spread, and obviously not where I am.
Keep working on it folks.

 I especially like this idea as I am not much into putting stickers on my van or vehicle.

I often fly the Eureka flag with great pride whilst in camp.

 Thanks Gerty....the best thing about it is many people often ask if it is the Scotish flag??

That gives me a wonderful opportunity to tell them about the history of our flag.

Totally agree with the flag idea. If there is a group of us only one flag would be needed up high as shown at Greens Lake when Val n Rob had no idea we were all still there until Ken and Jimbo went looking for them. They thought we had all been and gone.
Then we had day visitors as well who were wondering where to find us in such a large group of holiday makers.
If it wasn't for Normas big yellow bus, nobody would have found us. lol Can't miss it.

You pm Cindy and she will send you two out in the post. You need to giver her your address.

Boroma, there is a photo of an enlarged one on our November meet at Greens Lake with us standing behind it.
Will see if I can find it. Cindy also posted the same photo in one of the newsletters just after that meet.

I guess I should get a Eureka flag - my great grandfather, Morgan Lee, fought in the stockade!

I'm amazed at the amount of people who have the Eureka flag. Seems more popular than the Auusie flag. (on vans when camped)

Thanks Rosie, saved me going hunting for it.

I think the original Eureka Flag may have been adopted from the Murray River Flags of which it was part, see;

http://www.murrayriver.com.au/about-the-murray/murray-river-flag/

http://www.eurekaflag.com.au/

This link with a bit of history as to it's origins with 8 stars is very interesting too;

 http://eurekasydney.com/flag.html

As well as being a miner, Rafael Carboni was a lawyer and was the legal brains behind the Eureka Stockage fight for justice.  He returned to Italy later and was nver heard of again.  I had a book once called the Eureka Stockade which gave a more detailed explanation of his involvement.

Hmmm......think I'm going to get one!

On the subject of Australian Flags (I love the Eureka Flag best though), there is a group pushing for a new flag called Ausflag, see;

http://www.ausflag.com.au/

Please note that ausflag are not part of the push for an Australian Republic which is a separate matter altogether, although sometimes people confuse the aims of both, see Australian Republican Movement;

http://www.republic.org.au/

Both of these matters are very emotional and divisive so I don't want to start any controversy here among us, just wanted to point out the different aims of both groups for information.

I have sent Cindy a PM about looking into flags and selling them to interested nomads

The big sticker came about when we had the greens lake get together and was going to be put up where the majority were camped

The flags in varying sizes would be handy, but a sticker double the size it is now would be more noticeable.
The design is great and very identifiable so any enhancement would be a bonus.

Even if they do "stick" well we found that they fade rather too quickly unfortunately.

I've got 2 stickers, One on front and one on back. They are still stuck hard after many months.
The only one that has deteriated in all the stickers I have on there is the SES one I got up in Qld. Unreadable now.

Rob and I have the All Black Flag, The Maori Flag, The Aussie Flag, but while at Greens Lake flew the Boxing Kangaroo which I love. Have been to other places like The Drovers Campfire at Boggabri last April where heaps of campers had all sorts of flags, such as It's 4 o'clock somewhere, Happy hour etc etc. But you can only have so many flags can't you ??
