The first time i was out this fridge worked fine on the 12 volt system.
Now it won't.
the 12volt lights are working.
i tried it in the cigarette lighter so it would work from the main battery but no go.
It works fine on 240 which i will rarely use.

I am assuming that you mean you 12v van lights are working.
Does the Waeco cigarette plug have a fuse, most of these plugs do? Should be able to unscrew the top of the plug and check if there is a fuse and whether it is blown.

You could find that the wiring from the cigaretter lighter socket it too light and may need upgrading. I actually replaced my standard socket that I use for the fridge with a heavy duty one....bit more expensive but they really do the job.
I had my Waeco into the WA Waeco agent to reseat the door seal (was twisted), he had to take it out of the built in furniture to get at it properly, not only were the fuses in behind the fridge, but also the serial number and model of the fridge details.
In other words, in my case the fridge has to be removed for me to get at my fuses or obtain the serial number. This is a late model Waeco fridge, earlier models may be different.
The Waeco people in Qld refused to register my warranty because I could not find the serial number even though I explained the fridge was built in. Luckily the WA agent sorted it out for me when they did the seal and I have now copied the serial number down.
Talk about make things difficult, you just reminded me I must contact their head office and ask could they at least put a sticker on the outer or inside of the fridge itself as well as the rear to help people find it. I'll mention the fuses also.
May I suggest you contact Waeco near you and ask them, they may be able to help with your problem.

YES the 12v lights in the camper are working so it is not a flat battery.
reve rsed the camper out into the sun so the solar panel can charge.
there is a lighter socket for the fringe in the camper.
The plug has one of those tiny screws that no-0ne has a srewdriver for.
Hope it is just a fuse.

You'll need a heap more battery power to run your fridge than you do a few 12volt lights......Don't let the fact that the lights still work be an indicator as to how much battery power you have left.
This was the plug suplied with my Waeco Fridge. The white rectangle at the front is a fuse. I personaly dont like this type of plug & cut it of & fitted this type with an external fuse holder. Mutch more reliable.
Gee you have hairy hands DeBe. If DeBe can't fix it or assist, then no one can. Another helpful fridgy is Bob of Bob and Bev fame. These fridges are tricky little buggers, and when we depend on them and they let us down life sucks on the road.

I have a waeco 40lt fridge..........prob...4 years old now...........last weekend while away camping........the red emergency light came on..............I finally realised I was using 2.by 12v..extention leads (cig plugs male/female...thin cable) together so I could run the waeco in the back of my pajero......from the caravans battery.......... I got home and got a new lead made 7m long..by 6mm thick cable........was away this weekend ......not a problem...........
I was told ......rule.......the longer the lead the thicker the cable must be.
As Boroma577 has already said it takes a lot more power to run the fridge than it will to run the lights. Also if your Waeco is like mine it has a low voltage cut out switch to protect the battery from being completely flattened . So it will cut out as soon as the battery gets down a little.

Hi folks. I am retired and do some casual in Jan for large company that sell portable fridges. 50% of fridges that come in there is nothing wrong. The problem is those horrid cigarette din plugs shown in DeBe picture. Recommend Merit or called 16DIN plug http://tinyurl.com/6lry9ow not the 2nd unit down. Merit plugs click in place and dont fall out. There are poor quality Merit plugs and stick to Jaycar or Hella
Agree with Boroma577 I am working around australia im an auto election the amout of 4x4 shops i had done work for the biggest problem with any fridge not working properly is NOT the fridge its the wiring and plug in the car. Factory wiring to cigar lighter is so small it cannot handle the fridge amps. Always get a new din plug for the fridge and get it rewired to second battery with min of 6mm cable with a circuit braker then you will never have voltage problems with fridges
