ON THE ROAD BACK FROM HELL!

Hello to all, hope you all had a great xmas & are off to a very good new year.

I have not been on for a couple of weeks to see what every one has been doing due to another relapse of that rotton bamah forest virus.

I ,d like to remind all to keep covered up & protected from those bloody mozzies , sticking their beak in where it.s not wanted.

This is not one of those once of things , it remains in the body & strikes back from time to time, for me its mostly around the same time each year. This time it hit me about ten days before xmass, I was unable to do any thing for five days, came good & it hit again on xmas eve & I;ve been down ever since, with not even enough energy  or interest to even have a look in here at what has been happening.

Yesterday was my worst, never woke untill 10.30, had a cuppa & felt like pure crap, went back to bed & didn.t surface till 3.00pm, slowly started to feel a bit better during what was left of the arvo , not to bad today so hope I have betten it again. The aches & pains, soreness & tired beyond beleife , this changes your life for ever , as it is now about 15 yrs since the first round which lasted two yrs full on & then 18 mths of comming & going before I thought I was over it , only to find it returns when ever it likes.

Enough of my problems, stay protected & keep those wheels turning. I will come good & be back out there with you all again soon.

Cheers;

JC.

You have to beat this thing Jim,  You have to be in good health so you can enjoy our trip to Darwin and the West next year.

Don't forget we leave mid April.

Unfortunately it is not something you can beat as it stays in your system and comes back when it wants to
Hope you feel better soon

Hi JC

This sounds very similar to what we in the West know as Ross River Virus.  A very debillitating disease transmitted by the dreaded mossies.

You won't get rid of it but I hope you can get something to control the symptoms to get some relief.

Maybe a 'handle' of JC is what causes your problems at Christmas??? biggrin

Cheers Neil

Geez JC, this is terrible! You must be thoroughly "over it", wishing you could be over it! Hopefully medical science will find a treatment/cure very soon.

I have chronic fatigue syndrome which has similar symptoms. Drinking lots and lots of water and resting as much as possible help. I don't know if you are into taking natural supplements and herbs. If you are interested you could PM me and I'll give you a list of some I've found helpful for energy levels and for the body aches. Hope you find some ease soon.

Hey JC - I'm a fellow BFV sufferer so you have my sympathies.

For what it's worth I have found that taking a vitamin B complex pill every other day seems to both reduce the incidence of attacks and also reduces the impact somewhat. I used to take one every day, but I just got tired of having bright orange pee and I didn't want to be overloading on anything so I cut it down to every other day.

I also take those cold and flu tablets when I am suffering from the joint aches and pains. They also seem to help, but as you know all too well, the only thing that really does the job is rest.

Good luck with it.

Delta - Ross River and Barmah forest are very similar in their symptoms and in the fact that they recur at intervals, but they are different beasts. I believe that RRV is generally worse to live with, but BFV is a precursor to arthritis and the future for my and JC's joints is not exactly rosy.

Almurta - I am sending you a PM regarding those natural supplements. Thanks.

Joe

JC, I wish you all the very best in "living" with this terrible virus.

I have SVT, which can also strike at any time, anywhere.

This year it decided to strike with a new swist at a BBQ on Bruny Island on the 30th Dec.  We were over at the island in our yacht when I said I didn't feel too good and was going back to the boat.

Fortunately, one of our friends (a doctor) was there and asked to check my pulse.  He announced that I had gone into AF (atria fibulation) we managed to get back to the boat where he and Mrs. D motored it back to the mainland (Kettering) to be met at the marina by an ambulance.

Since been released and had a relapse back to hospital.

Now home again and feeling like I've been run over by a Mack truck.

Good news is that they performed an angigram and announced that I have no blockages of the arteries and have not had a unrecognised heart attack.

Bad news, they still cannot  control the SVT and now AF attacks.

The worse part, like yourself JC, is the uncertainy of when and where this is going to strike.  For me of course, I must have access to an ambulance and a hospital. Also the strain it places on Mrs D.

Anyway, like yourself, we just get on with it. Live in a great country and lots more to see and enjoy.

And I bet, there are many, many more people out there worse than me.

Oh! bugger Jim, that's not good, we hope you are getting on top of it now, I will make sure I bring a bottle of bundy down when we go to North Haven, if you are not recovered fully by then the bundy should clear it up.

See you and Leonie soon

Bummer Jim - I hope you start to feel a bit better soon.  All those viruses can be difficult to live with.

Landfall - I have atrial fibrillation and it does make you tired but it can be controlled somewhat by medication.  Make sure your doctor sends you to a cardiologist. You learn to live with it. And they can restart your heart - doesn't take that long.

Hi Esmeralda,

It's not the AF that is of too much of a concern. It's the SVT thta's the big worry.  A heart rate of in excess of 200bpm is not good, throw on this the new complication of AF and the doctors were getting quite worried.

The problem being (according to them) is that each problem is the complete opposite for treatment.

I have suffered from SVT for twenty years, the cardiologists cannot find the trigger, the medication is OK but lets "breakthroughs" and this is the big problem.

Hoping that this new cardiologist will find something more positive, but he has already admitted that it is a long shot.

You have my utter admiration for living with this problem.

Take care everyone, and do what you can to tolerate these nasty viruses.
If Vitamin B helps, maybe ginger will help with the aches and pains of pending arthritis.
Do what you can to ensure a relatively comfortable life on the road. All the best to all of you.

Hi Jim, hope your on the road to recovery, get better soon. Sounds like a pretty nasty thing to have and not all that uncommon it seems.
Get Leonie to give you cool drinks and a massage, will make you feel better.

Great! here's me thinking I'm rid of it at last I have been treated by naturopaths and I am finally feeling better it has come back over last couple of years but I am living in hope that it won't again. There is not a lot of research regarding Bhama Forest Virus, more on Ross I think it's nastier and does have the ability to come back when you get run down. I had them both running at once and was told by my Doc. that the mosquito has to bite a large animal first eg. cow/horse so stay extra protected in the country areas.
