Off on a loop? well sort of.

The last time we went we were three,Linda, myself and three month old daughter. She now has two boy's, so it's time to head off again, this time without the bulk of purified water, bassinet, nappies, dirty nappies and all the other paraphernalia then required to travel with a baby.

In a prelude to Linda retiring, she has decided to take long service leave on half pay. This will provide about $80 a day from 1st Feb-1st Nov,a sum that would not provide for much when traveling, unless we can keep costs down.

So after careful deliberation and six months planning we will be off on 1st Feb,landing in KL,then to the east coast up toThailand,Koh Samui,Phuket, through Cambodia,Laos, train up through Vietnam, into China, train from Beijing to Lhasa, down to India then..........................

So far we have flights to KL and a couple of weeks at resorts, the time at which was purchased at 70-80% off through "spreets" promotions, so our "planing" has been predominantly research on our ability to do this trip, some intense fitness regimes and 7kg of carry on backpacks.

We don't consider ourselves backpackers, more flash-packers and will be traveling slowly, with no major itinerary, just absorbing the different cultures and of course the food. I will be dropping a few posts fom time to time.

Dave.

P.S. alway's knew I'd be on the hippy trail againbiggrin

Sounds excellent. I loved train travel though Asia - can't be beaten - cheap, comfortable and oyu get to see lots you would miss by fling or driving. In general I found the trains had excellent staff and service also.

Looking forward to seeing older parts of cities that trains are about, not many colonial airports around.
