Internet costs

My interent is through bigpond and I quite often check my usage on line so I don't exceed my monthly limit.

Yesterday I decided to check out the current plans and discovered that things had changed. For exactly the same price I was paying for my 3GB you can now get 4GB. I rang telstra and they have upgraded my usage to the new amount.

If you are on a monthly liberty plan with telstra it might pay to check the current rates to see if you should be getting a higher monthly usage too.

It bugs me that we do not get notifications when better deals are available.

Hi Pam I'm right with you on that one. They are constantly coming up with new plans which include lots of freebies but never bother to let you know.

The other trap is to avoid the telstra shops. They have a very complex semi franchise system. If you go into a shop they will tell you that you cannot get a new plan without updating your phone, modem or whatever.

I went in recently to get a new phone and asked about getting a new plan for my existing modem on my home computer. I was sold a new modem because they inisted I could not have a new plan without it. The modem turned out to be useless for my home system (I'm in a rural area with restricted coverage) and it was a real hassle to return it. A very long story and I had to threaten to go to the ombudsman before they took it back.

Always update your plans etc via the phone direct to telstra or via internet rather than going into a Telstra shop.

Updated to the 4 Gig Plan 2 months ago.
$29.95/month is pretty good value when one considers their wirless coverage.

You need to update by phone. If you do it on the internet you lose your discounts for single billing and then have to ring them anyway.

I am with Optus for my iphone and Internet and pay $99 a month for unlimited calls to anywhere in Australia and get 5gb of Internet. I'm aware that Optus coverage won't be the same as Telstra but I have hAd coverage where Telstra has had coverageso far. I can also use my iPhone as a hotspot for internet when I am using my iPad.

Thanks for that Pam.

I struggle with the 2gig.

I was out of contract so got 2G for $49.95 less $10 for 'one bill'.

After reading this post I followed it up & now have 5gig for $49.95 less $20.

Had to sign a 2yr contract to get the extra $10 discount, not a problem as I have no intention of changing in the forseable future & don't expect NBN in our area too soon.  In any case there will be migration offers when it does come.

Thanks again

as still checking out prepaid internet. god all these companies making millions, and can't let their loyal customers
know about better deals. something very wrong!!!

I did exactly that a couple of months ago Pam. Went from 3Gg up to 4Gg for the same price.
I'm sure I started a thread at the time.
I was on the 29.95 a month because of the reward discounts. What they don't tell you is you lose your discounts. Taking it back up to 49.95. I only found out when the account came in. I rang to sort it out, they couldn't reinstate the discount so had to give me a credit to cover what I would lose right up to my contract finish date.
They gave me a credit of $120.00

Something to be wary of.

I'm on an Optus plan, $79 month, free calls. The plan runs out in May, so I'll be changing to Telstra WiFi.

My mobile is a Telstra Next G prepaid, which I top up each month with $30. So I always have heaps of credit. When I change in May, I'll get rid of the landline altogether.

I have a prepaid telstra stick pay $150 for 12 months which gives me 10 gig to use over the 12 months renew before the 12 months is up and the left over credit gets added on to the following 12 months
just browsing and emails whilst travelling I dont use any near 10 gig over the 12 months but to my way of thinking is cheap

Just becareful if you change your plan that you are not signing up again for another 2 years.
I think we pay about $40 a month for 7 gig. We have 2 mobiles with telstra.
