I would love to see something similar about Melbourne.

WELL DONE VIC.

I also noticed no one looked stressed, any wonder people refer to those days as "The good old days". Why oh why do do things have to change? confuseconfusecrycry

I was just a little tacker of 6 at that time Vic, Delta(ess) was 3.  I didn't get to see Perth until a 2 week visit in 1976 convinced me that I needed to see more of this state so I moved permanently in 1978, a few months after Cyclone Alby caused much devestation to much of the southwest.

Much had changed in Perth in the intervening 22 years from that video to when I first saw Perth, freeway, high-rise buildings, mini-skirts (the girls at the high school in the vid looked 'hotter' that I recall them looking when I was at school though cry )

Wouldn't it be great to have a time machine, go back then knowing what you know now???  The mind boggles.

Cheers Neil

Goodness that was the year I was born!
Great footage Vic. Noticed the white Swans of Northam. We visited there last year just to see the swans, only place in Australia they are found in the wild.
Did anyone else notice that very few people were overweight?
Is the power station mentioned the old disused one down near femantle?
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Glenda

Thanks for the comments, I was going to put this in places to see or whatever, then realised none of us have a time machine, ha ha!

I was going to Perth Boys High School (now an Arts Centre in Northbridge near the Art Gallery) and remember how we used to harrass the girls at Josies Bungalows (Brothels) in Roe Street.

Sometimes we had to walk to Modern School in Thomas Road Subi for a class and on the way past we threw fire crackers into their courtyards as we were passing, or did until we got covered in a bucket of slops(?) when they waited for us once hiding behind their green fence (all the bungalows had high green fences around their courtyards, that song "Green Door" reminds me of them).

Ah, the memories.........

A great film Vic..
Thanks for posting the link

It reminds us Steam trains were still in normal use.. Diesel locos were not far away at that time.

There were a couple of cars I bought later on when they were cheap enough for a young bloke to buy.

Glenda mentioned the power station - fairly early in the film..

It is the South Fremantle power station.. Now closed and abandoned.

It would surely be suitable for renovation and converting into flats or units..
Prime position - absolute beach front.

I'm sure a lot of developers keep eying off the site..

Here's how it looks today.
The large chimneys, shown in the film, have been removed.

Jim

Thanks for the pic of the Power Station Jim, I thought it was that one but not having the chimneys today fooled me......Don't know what the future holds for the old station now.

Luna Park good too GS !

No worries Boroma, in my mispent youth when we had no money for the bus fares home at night, we would hang off the pram hooks with our feet on the bus bumper (making sure our heads were lower than the back window so the driver couldn't see us) and when we got to our bus stop jump off.....sheesh, what am I saying !! ashamed disbelief

Pretty well covers most of it Boroma.......we had a lot more fun in those days, not so many temptations (drugs etc) and not so many restrictions on what we could do or not do (other than those laid down by your parents, lol ) wink

And those restrictions were strictly adhered to Vic, they were the days when kids had respect for their parents and adults in general and the local cop.
