I know we have had a disastrous year with floods but it looks like the insurance companies are trying to recover all there losses in one fowl swoop
In Vic the RACV has increased there premiums up to 1000% (not a misprint) and have made flood damage compulsory even if you are not in a flood area, so have a good look are your renewals and shop around.
APIA quoted a premium that included flood damage and was the same as previous premium from RACV
well,im in QLD but weve got a QLD NRMA,roadside/insurances etc etc.
Anyway theyve got my falcon for agreed value of 22,000 [i paid 12,000] . my van for agreed 54,000 [ paid 34,000]. my house n contents for 355,000 [combined] with 100% flood insurance on all 4. put that with a NIL excess on all 4 and it comes out to $12 LESS than where i was at WESTPAC [they wanted $400 excess on EVERY policy].
Now,ive only JUST transferred as as of the 9/1/12 NRMA have FULL flood at NO extra cost. Im thinking in a year or so they'll jump up like everyone else.

AAPI doubled my premiums for my house even though I had no damage , or flooding from The last big cyclone. They said that I was in a storm tide zone , but I have never had water on my land, and loking at the storm surge maps, I am 50 yards from the edge of a 3.5 m storm surge, one that has never happened.Just a money grab , if you ask me.I am definately thinking of selling up and getting on the road. Everything is getting too expensive. I want to work for me , not to pay the bills.

Hi Ken, i will keep a look out in Qld. when my next bill comes. I do not want flood insurance cos if we flood the rest of Australia is in big, big, trouble. So why would I want to pay for something I do not need. Maybe if it is compulsory here and the cost outragous a lot of people including us will opt out and take our chances uninsured. Cheers. Intersting. Can you tell us how much each thing costs to insure. cheers. rocket n storp
no i cant sorry.BUT a direct comparison to westpac [who wanted $400 excess EACH on all 4 AND Market Value NOT agreed] the NRMA has NILL excess EACH comes out $12 cheaper total.
Next year ill shop around again.

For some reason I checked the details of my comprehensive insurance on my car. I now have to have commercial insurance because of the job. I'm with National Seniors Insurance, underwritten by Allianz. There is the 10% GST and the 12.5% Sales Tax = 22.5% tax on a pensioner's comprehensive insurance. I even questioned it with the ATO and the ACCC, and it's correct to add these taxes. In this corporatised world it seems the big boys are getting rich at our expense to a degree we've never been subjected to before. The banks are cutting back on front counter staff while the fat cats get fatter. How bad will it get before people start protesting loudly. Speak up people. Express yourselves. Don't take the crap. Protest! Negotiate. Haggle, haggle, haggle.

We live in Central Victoria and RACV Insurance have increased their premiums to automatically include flood coverage. Some households have gone from paying $600 a year to between $3 and $4 thousand. Huge increase. We are with CGU so not sure what will happen. Our yard was flooded but not the house inside luckily, lapping at front and door. Cheers Glenda
