I am indeed staying at Ellen's place with the backpackers. I will certainly renew my posting when I get started on my travels again. I am updating the blog but it may not be relevant to this nomad's forum but anyone can view it at the signature link.
The plan was to make several camping trips with Ellen in her van and me in mine as a backup whilst she got used to the free camping and the camping with dogs, she has posted her frustrations with the auto electrics in another thread and now she has had to go to Perth earlier than planned for medical reasons.
Time will tell but I expect to resume my travels early February, the delay works out very well since I am spending the summer in a cooler place and expect to go over the top from May on, leaving me 3 months to travel 3000 kms.
The internet is not easy here so my visits to the forum are usually hurried with little time for posting, currently I am in Denmark with the lixury of a full connection.
The highlight of the day was getting tipped out of a canoe on the Denmark river, here is a pic of us trying to get the canoe upright again. Will have to replace the camera before I can post new location shots.
And we're both being entertained at Cosy Corner free camp (near Albany..see camps 6)........had to walk down the beach a bit to get pc access.......John says to say hello to everyone and will be back on line when he has renewed his download capacity later this month.

Must say I am a bit concerned about John, after seeing him practising Kung Fu movements trying to collapse his shower tent (more from John on that when he gets back online). Not long after that he was seen talking to a young Korean girl who was a Kung Foo expert (2nd Dan?) who was demonstrating some of his moves so maybe he was picking up a few tips on pulling down a shower tent. John has left Cosy Corner to pick up some items from Albany (Kung Fu Manual?) and then he is returning to Elle's farm. I am at a caravan park now in Denmark (recharging battery on power) then heading off in the morning in the direction of Augusta, then following the coast north.
By the way, Rod Base the missing Chidlow man has not been found and no further clues (see Chidlow thread) so please keep your eyes out for him.

Vic and I did have a good couple of days free camping at Cosy Corner east, the high point for me was the meal I cooked in the pressure cooker. The most frustrating thing was the supposedly easy to put up shower tent. It pops up easily and is anchored simply, yeah yeah, I never even got the thing up and the hardest part is the folding it down. I didn't get to attempt to put it away some of the tension poles had snapped by this time and I threw the tent away in disgust.
I now have internet capacity but still have to climb the hill to get a signal and will post a photo when they are loaded from the new camera.
The Korean young lady was intersting to talk to and we discussed the meals that the Korean back packer has cooked in his stay here in Denmark also her considerable Kung Fu skills, bumped into her again whilst in Albany.
I haven't used my shower tent yet John. Now after reading your description of disaster, I don't know if I want to try. Thought they just popped up by themselves but a bit more difficult to get down.
I might bring it inside to my unit and try it there first. Then it can go straight into the rubbish bin if it all fails. lol

It is a bit tricky Marj. My son was trying desperately to fold it back up and along came d-i-l and in no time, had it folded and into the bag. She thinks it's a man thing!
I've only used mine once, had a bit of a tangle, but it wasn't too bad.
Well! I have brought it inside. Takken it out of the bag. It sprung up. I read all the instructions carefully then proceeded to fold it back up. Got it nearly there and couldn't see how to get the 2 circles so re-read the instructions. Wala!!! Done.
My motto has always been, "If all else fails, read the instructions"
Just proved my motto right. Tried to do it a 2nd time without reading the instructions. Couldn't work out the last bit till I went back to instructions.
Helen, much easier to try it in private where no one can laugh at you in a muddle as you try to get it right. Was quite easy really. Just be patient and slowly wind it back into place. As you go you can see the turns it should make.
I reckon it's a man thing as well - they never read instructions.
I look forward to watching you open up your shower tent and put it away again. Hopefully soon when you get back to Denmark.
I did read the instructions but it didn't open up properly, must have stuffed it up when I tried to open it up at home for a trial erection. Even at home it didn't open properly.
When we were at Julia Creek at the free camp there, we could see a couple in the distance trying to fold theirs. They were at it for about 20 minutes so the Other Half walked around and asked if they needed a hand. They jumped at the offer for sure.
We hadn't needed ours out this trip with the van having the shower, so it took him a couple of minutes to remember the drill but did rather well and gave the lovely couple a few lessons with it.
Hopefully they didn't forget for next time.

Now. Now. Elle. Have read the instructions on mine every time I fold it up. Always goes up no probs and think I'll remember how to fold it, but KRAFT disease sets in and have to go back to instructions.
The dingo looks fat and healthy. The last one I saw was road kill between Emerald and Roma. Also obiously in very good condition before its demise. Take care camping folks. They're sly critters.
