Good morning all from nambour general hospital
Bootcamp, its day 12 for me today ,please dont anybody take this the wrong
Way i understand that we have mental illness in this country but i truly feel
Like writing a letter to that woman that is running this once great country of
Ours and telling her what sheneeds to do for australias sick and ill people.
I have to say i have had every walk of life put next to me here ,i dont class myself as someone special but i will say i have felt my body is no longer mine and i am fighting to regain the strength to gain control of it again, this is not easy when you have not had any sleep for days on end and you end up in tears.
I have chosen to come off endone days ago so ive had the sweats where ive had to have my bed hanged, but im now going strong not rven having panadol.
Some times in the day i feel like somebody is throwing hot darts at my leg the pains are firey hot stabs.
Ive had some very different people i understand that we have mental illness in this world but i also think there should be a special ward for this when people are trying to recover from a big operation ,for two night now i have a drug addicted guy next to me who is fine unless they keep topping him up i fidnt know you could come to hospital for that ,yes he has a boil or spider bite or something on his butt so they had to put him in surgery to drain the puss i guess but hey they send people home after having a baby whack a plaster on and send him on his way .
Ive had some realy down days in here ,and most of them are due to no sleep because im so easy going i swear they stick them all with me its been a journey and all i can say is i just hope i come out the other end to be able to do what our wishes are.
Sell our business and home and get n our way to see australia indefinetly
Stay safe all you guys and just cruisin and leonie thank you for all your calls and help xxx catch up for that carona soon hey xx
Hey there Della, I really do know where you are coming from in regards to our hospital system and how bad it has become, my Mum has been in and out for the last 12 months or so and it is a real eye opener, though I think the poor nurses and doctors are really working under terrible conditions..........I remember the days when men and women had seperate wards nowadays it seems to be one in all in. I can imagine all you want to do is go home to your own familiar surroundings and I am sure that once you get there the healing will really begin, but in the meantime just grin and bear it, as you really have no choice, you have come this far the worst is behind you and the life you want is just around the corner..........keep strong.
Hi Della, hang in there, I have not responded to your posts before this sorry. I know what you, family and friends are going through. My wife went through all what you have just mentioned for 3 years. Don't live in pain my friend there are plenty of different things available to help you through. I think, NO I know the Government and the hospital system have got it all wrong, I don't believe in mixed wards and cancer patients need to be with cancer patients not with boils on bums or drug addicts etc etc. I won't get on that soap box off mine as I could go on forever. I might not reply to your posts much Della but please remember I do read them and my thoughts go out to you and your's at all times, I don't know what else I can say my friend, keep strong through this Della and you will get through it. DOUG

Why do you deny yourself pain relief? That will slow your recovery... its not like you are committing yourself to taking it for the rest of your life. If endone didnt make you feel any better ask for something else. Really, its not going to make you an addict and being strong is what you need for healing, not for enduring pain.
Yes you are right, boils and surgical cases should not be anywhere near each other. Complain to your doctor!! Hurry up and get out of the Glassies.... best wishes to you.
My thoughts are still with you. I actually spent the morning of the 3rd of this month in the emergency sectionn of Nambour hospital. I'd had a fall & was in considerable pain fom a wrenched back. While there someone was brought in (out of my sight but not my hearing). Well this person was high on SOMETHING & yelling & screaming 'get away from me, Don't you touch me" & using the most foulest language. I really felt for the hospital staff trying to do their job but being abused. Hope you heal well & fast so you can get out of there. In the meantime cheers from Kandagal
Della pain relief is necessary for sleeping and for healing. You can't sleep if you are in pain no matter who is in the next bed. By the way you actually heal more when you are sleeping, stupid I know but it definitely helps. Ask the nursing staff if there is any reason why you can't be moved. You may be closer to the nurses station so they can keep an eye on you but if this is not the case there should be no real reason why they cannot move you somewhere on the ward where it is quieter.
Definitely you should not be near anyone with pus!! Cross contamination is so easy - try to make sure the staff wear clean gloves when near your wound and a good mask.
I you have private health insurance you may be able to upgrade to a smaller room.
I hope you feel better soon.
Cheers, Helen

like the others say, don't deny yourself pain relief. Hospital is the pits and if you can sleep your way through it so much the better. I hope you do finally manage to get some sleep. Keep on getting better - it's good to see you making so much progress. We are all with you.
Hi Della, I can understand about not getting any sleep in a hospital, I have spent a lot of time in them, I dont know if you can afford it or if you have some kind of health cover , maybe worth looking at to get a private room? but i guess it depends on the hospital too.. last time i was in hospital , a couple years ago with phnomia, i had some dude come in , and yelled and screamed and just caused so much drama for the staff , in the end i just put in my head phones and listened to music or the radio.. maybe if you talk to the staff, tell them how distressed you are and ask if you can get a private room...
Hi Della, Like others have said you really need to get your sleep ask the staff to move you into another room sleep is a wonderful healer Della we are all there for you hopefully you will be home soon. Helena.
Ask to see the social worker, and tell her/him you need peace and quiet, another room. It depends how much longer you are going to be in for. Different pain relief, endone I know make me one spaced out and sometimes nauseous. I know what you mean about the leg pain, I had mine elevated for days, it was worse than having a baby. True story. Good suggestion from Milo re ear phones, can you hire a tv, and have the earphones in so you dont have to hear other patients drama. They can be a real pain in the a..... I really have been thinking of you and lifting you up in my prayers, even though we havent met. I really wish you a speedy recovery, everyone on this forum is battling for you. Hope you feel more rested tomorrow hun. night night
Della my prayers, with everyone else here, are with you, which I truly believe can help.. You need sleep to heal, so earphones are a good idea. I am not on the road yet as I am still trying to sell. I hope we all meet up for a cup of tea or glass of wine one day, please stay positive, you have so many friends here. Hope we all meet up one day on the road!!!! Take care and god bless.
Start complaining Della its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, that's the trouble with most Aussies they don't complain enough that's why we have the government and health system falling apart. Hang in there kid this is from an ex pom who has whinging down to an art form just ask my ex wife TAKE YOUR MEDS pain can retard healing

Hey Della you're doing really well putting up with all that ward chaos and institutionalised indifference. Just a thought, it might be worth asking to get transfered to a bed where your injured leg is next to a wall so you don't have the anxiety of someone stumbling into it. My experience of private health cover is that it is not worth having, just lots and lots of bills that never stop coming. Hang in there
