Are they so close in performance & price that`s it is too hard to pick ??...for those of you that have gone the diesel path & through at least one winter and now a summer, how difficult is the cleaning process ??
Am led to beleive that the diesel unit can be a pain to clean prior to a summer of non use....advices please.
We are thinking of buying a LPG heater for the reason that we already have gas on board, and didnt want to carry a container of diesel. Hadnt thought about the cleaning aspect. Thank you whiteman, very interesting.
Gerty, not sure if it`s cleaning in the normal sense or that you need to drain the diesel to make sure it`s not contaminated when next required....the diesel probably breaks down when not used or stored over long periods, whereas LPG is ready to go everytime.
We have a Truma E2400 LPG heater in our van and love it, but be it Gas or Diesel, the buggers are over priced. You can install a gas space heater to heat your house for less than these RV units cost. OJ

To date we have not had any problems with the fuel for our diesel heater (installed July 2010), either algae growth etc on storage or gelling in cold weather, and dont have an in line fuel filter. We have always dosed the diesel tank with Chemtech Diesel Additive http://tinyurl.com/3k3sf2j%20(experience from 4WDing in Alpine areas in winter), though have read of others using Kero.
As per the heaters manual we fire up the heater every month or two and let it run full bore for an hour to make sure all is well. We also cover the air intake and exhaust on storage to stop wasps nesting.
We just top up the diesel tank when we are about to head off, and so far all has been well.
