Going to Rosebud Vic next Monday 22nd Jan for a few days to chech up on some Cousins. Might as well have a good look whilst I;m there...May see if I can get a spot on the foreshore for a night or two.....And ride my Bike around and about.....Hows that for Earth shattering news ?
I'm excited by that news Jimbo! ha,ha,ha - Rosebud is a nice place can ride to Sorrento and also down to Portsea - and all the way out on the quarantine station - to The Rip - really good to see the big ships coming through there - when I was about four, my brothers and their mate rowed us through the rip, and around to the back beach at Portsea - my mother woul dhave killed them had she known - had my initials carved into a cave out at the back beach, but probably eroded away by now.
Expect a lot of people down at Rosebud - make sure you go out the the Rye Back beach, - and explore Sorrento - I lived in Old Melbourne Road, opposite the footy ground, in what is now a B&B, called Eastcliff - lovely old house, that had servants quarters out back.

My family used to camp on the foreshore between McCrae and Rosebud for for quite a few years when I was a teen. My brother even met his wife down there.

you will probably need a lot of luck if looking for a caravan park as its the week with the Australia Day holiday. Lots of great places on the Mornington Penninsula but like previous post very popular and crowded in holiday times - good luck

Very Interesting comments.....The Momories of the penninsula..It;s a little pricey down that way now...I rang up the Rosebud Foreshore there are plenty of sites...Power $45 unpowered $40.....I think I'll stay at my Cousins in eastbourne Road they have offered. And ride around there with my battery driven Bike and take in the sights and sounds...... I hear some Caravan place snear Cains are only $25 per night.......

Rosebud foreshore camping over the Christmas period.
Certainly brings back memories of the tent city of the early 1960s. It use to be wall to wall Austral tents, (the 9x9 with extensions, white walled green roof tents) such that you could not walk between the tents due to the guy ropes crossing over. Families would set up camp at the beginning of December and only pack them up after Easter. In the main just very basic camping, no 240v, just gas or kero for fridge, lighting and cooking, plus camp stretches for beds.
As a youngster would have breakfast then head to the beach, meet up with all the other kids, only to return near sunset for the evening meal. Gee they were great carefree days, filled with swimming, sunbaking, playing Cricket and Monopoly etc for hours on end.
Also had similar experiences down on the Surf Coast at Torquay in the late 60s early 70s.
We went down to Rosebud about three or four years ago on a day trip and I was surprised how deserted the foreshore camping area was in comparison to those days.
I guess the camping fees mentioned by Jimbo would be part the reason, plus it is a very different world nowadays.
Hi Jimbo, just wondering how long you will be in the Rosebud area. We are currently in Tassie but returning to Rye were we have the van parked on the 5th of Feb, will be free to catch up on the 6th if you are still around.

Jimbo, in 1972 I turned 21 and was married and pregnant - I think I stayed on the foreshore with my parents for a few days. I joined them for a couple more years with my daughter but the fun of the 60s, 70, 71 was gone by then. It would have been in around 1975 when the family started going to Portarlington foreshore.
