Yes, it's a great way to check out areas before you get there.

I've just looked at my street and it's dated 11/1/12, so very up to date. And the picture is very clear. But it's not so clear out of the city. eg: Tin Can Bay Q.

This is the site that the local council uses to check people's yards for illegal pools etc.

Hi, what next will they check???? which site do I go to, to see this? rocket n strop thanks.

Nearmap is excellent and very 'up to date' provided the area you want to see is in a capital city or major regional centre otherwise forget it.

Even Bunbury WA area,  50,000 odd residents, only gets updated annually, still better than Google.  Capital cities seem to get done monthly mostly.

Cheers Neil

Google earth can be useful for stuff like showing where the marine park is here in port stephens, and combined with marks from fishing sites you can see if it's a legitimate spot to fish or you'll get fined etc. I have loaded a KML of the of the marine park that I produced from a shape file and can display it on Google earth. Also I downloaded a data file which shows the camps in camps australiawide so you can see them in google earth too, but these need to be displayed when you are fairly zoomed in or you can't see anything else. Great for seeing what's in the area you want to camp. Or planning a trip and checking out the camps prior to leaving or even enroute and you can still use street view with it.
