Thanks for the flood warnings. I'm in Murwillumbah trying to move the last of my furniture into store before starting off on my travels. I have till Friday to be out the unit. Hope there's a break long enough to move stuff in the trailer. It rained heavily all night.

Clarence River here in Grafton is becoming a bit of a worry too.

Think I've had enough of this rain.

It's amazing, in the 2 years of our travel we had rain 3 times yet in the 4 months we have been home over half of it has been rainy.

Think we had better start traveling again.

I agree that building on the flood plain is asking for trouble but sometimes it rains so much streets well away from rivers are affected. Today it rained so much the drains backed up and started spouting like fountains. A flash flood formed in the street outside my place. For about an hour only 4WDs could negotiate the street. Luckily the rain stopped and the water disappeared as quickly as it had collected.

Tumbulgum is very low lying - its a strange place. The place where they launch boats is right next to the main streets - the water laps against the road - and that's on a good day.)

My grandaughter was unable to go to school today. The bus couldn't get through the flood waters on the Biggenden to Maryborough Rd, Qld.
Now I hear on the 24 news the Bruce Hwy is closed just south of Childers because of rising flood waters.

Chinderah and Fingal Head in northern NSW are being evacuated. The highway heading to Murwillumbah is cut at Tumbulgum. Parts of Murwillumbah are under water. Further south Bellingen and Darkwood are cut off.

Sounds like there is a lot more to come, and could end up like last year with all the floods as far down as Vic.
Also on the news, Authorities are worried for the safety of Tamworth music goers as there is a lot of rising waters in that area.
I know there are a few grey nomads there, hope they are all ok.

Was thinking the same thing Jon! Except now its raining where we were warm and dry! Cant escape from it!

Hows Perth, still dry? you might have some refugees from floods turning up soon.

I'm going to get on my soapbox here for a minute...

I'm sick of hearing people on TV whinging and crying about their flooded properties etc. They've chosen to live in low lying areas, what do they expect! And like last years floods, they're not listening to authorities warnings. Also people who drive into flooded roads without checking first, and no consideration for the poor beggers who have to go and get them out!

And the Councils need a kick in the b.u.m too, because they've allowed homes to be built in low lying areas.

Yep, I've wondered the same thing too Beth... why do people choose to build in flood areas, and why do the councils let them?
Mind you there were places that flooded last year where it was quite unforeseen, I feel sorry for those people.

For those who don't know Tumbulgum, it's right on the edge of the Tweed River between Tweed Head and Murwillumbah. Very low along there.

im so greatful my area doesnt get flooded out, we had a huge storme last nite and
we had 2 black outs.. I rang up 2ue over nights and talked about it on air..

Just heard from Brisbane that parts are flooded and some roads impassable... DIL couldnt get to work yesterday. Doesnt look like the rain is ready to quit yet either.

That's right Gerty. Lots more to come tomorrow arvo, they say. They've opened the gates at Wivenhoe Dam again, to make sure we don't have that immense amount of water again. So Colleges Crossing is probably flooded.
