Tamworth to Longreach

Heading up towards Longreach after the Tamworth Music Festival, anyone heading that way or camped along the way?

Cheers C

Hang on to the steering wheel for all you're worth! The roads are hell up that way.
Which way are you going? Roma to Emerald is absolutely shocking, and I recently had to do it 4 times. My arms ached for 2 weeks and my back still hasn't recovered.

We're leaving Tamworth tomorrow ( Sunday ) . Going through Bendemeer and  Kingstown to Bundarra , then on to Inverell on Monday .

Don't know which way after that .

Unless you have reason to go via Kingstown my suggestion to get to Bundarra and Inverell would be via Uralla as it's a much better road, especially if towing.

A suggested route from Inverell to LR would be via St George, then Mitchell, Tambo, Barcaldine. I've travelled on the direct road from St. George to Mitchell a couple of times and it was fine then, several years ago, but I'm not up to date with the road conditions so check this out.

If going via Goondiwindi my preferred route from Inverell is via Warialda and North Star, however tap into the local knowledge on this when you get to Inverell.

Both Google Maps and Whereis.com provide excellent planning tools but always check against good ol'fashion paper maps as they sometimes come up with a furphey.

Thanks for the helpful advice, my thoughts are to go back the way I came which was Moree, Goondawindi, Nindigully, Augathella, Longreach.  It was 6 months ago but the road was very good then. Anyone camped anywhere along the way?

Cheers C

If you go through both Moree and Goondiwindi to Nindigully it will be a bit of a dog leg.  Suggest either via Warialda, North Star, Goondiwindi or via Moree and Mungindi.  Without checking I think the latter would be a bit shorter.

I'm assuming you wish to include Bundarra/Inverell in the route, otherwise it would be quite a bit shorter from Tamworth to go via Barraba, Bingara, Warialda or via Gunnedah, Narrabri Moree etc.
