Some may rememb er that I recently had a biopsy on my nose, I just got a call from the specialist, it is positive but not serious but I have to go in on monday to get a chunk cut out of my nose.
So I make this plea to all my friends here, get your self checked all over regularly (at least once a year) and if any suspicions have it attended to immediately.
The specialist told me that if I had left it until next year there would be a good chance of major surgery to my nose, getting in this soon means I will be just a little bit more ruggedly handsome.
GO GET YOURSELF CHECKED - "WELL GO ON"OFF YOU GO

Thanks for that, but it is nothing serious, just a shallow melanoma and it wont need any bodgieing up afterwards, will just leave a little dent on one side of my nose.
Might make me look sorta cute for the girls dont you think

I endorse the call for checkups. Our daughter-in-law was only 29 and her melanoma was on her calf. She had only been sunburnt twice in her life! I had a freckle checked. It was a melanotic freckle which would have turned into a melanoma. Always worth checking. All the best to Goinsoon
Thanks for the reminder. Will make an app to see my doctor. I have this thing on my nose that keeps flaring up, goes scabby, then goes away again. I asked her about it last year when she burnt some spots off the back of my hands. She said she wouldn't bother with it at the moment, but it bled the other week. Time to get it checked again.

Definitely get it checked out Marj. I had one on my arm that just would not heal. Doc checked it out and then cut it out, turned out to be a skin cancer but fortunately not a Melanoma.

I,m lucky.Only seem to get squamous cell carcinomas, not as bad. You have to keep an eye on your skin, and get checked regularly. You might think this is strange, but I seem to have less since I cut down drinking(alchohol).Cleaning up your act can help.Bill
Off on Monday for my 6 monthly check. Been having checks for over 30 years and still the bugga's keep turning up. Count myself lucky if they don't find something to cut out. They turn up anywhere at anytime people, so as goinsoon says "get youself checked out"

Brian - you could always put a little diamond nose stud in there - disguise the "dent" - lol!! I had a tiny pinhead size "thing" on my hand - ended up with a hole that the doctor could put his whole thumb in and 26 stitches. Need to keep an eye on these things.

I think I've mentioned before that I'm rather paranoid about my skin. My skin is exactly the same as my Dad's was and he lost half his nose to skin cancer. Sounds a bit like yours Brian, but he didn't go soon enough. They did a skin graft from his forehead, of all places, so it returned many years later. He ended up with quite a bulbous nose from his ops. Over the later years, his GP cut heaps out of his face and forearms, in particular. He was in the Engineers in WW2, so plenty of time outdoors.
So far, I've only had one actual BCC, basal cell carcinoma, on my nose too. But just a little tiny one. I also have a new one growning near the edge of my eye Marj, and have been to see about it. I have to go back in April to have it checked again.
Interesting thing, Dad's GP said they need to be cut out aggressively, not just burnt off. I think he just like hacking into some flesh!
Got my check-up next Tuesday, after my Mum had an enormous melanoma taken off ther scalp some years ago, I too am paranoid about these things, particularly as we play lawn bowls out in the sun.

So pleased you are onto it so early.
My husband's mother had a melamona removed from here face back in the 80's and had radiology treatment. She then developed bone cancer from the radiology treatment 20 years later. But at least it gave her many more years.

Coincidently I've been to the skin clinic this morning. I'm a molely person, (Enough comments) so I keep watch. I last went in Cairns and had a couple of those scaly skin areas singed off and they haven't returned. This time I have to have 2 removed from my back in 3 week's time. Then I have to keep check every 3 months. So far all the moles I've had removed have been all clear. Maybe that's the benefits of being a molely person from childhood. I was severely sunburnt in 1972 when I was burnt on Sunday and peeled twice by Friday. OUCH!!! Ugly. It certainly pays to watch the little spots. I have a couple of new ones, very tiny black ones, which raise my alarm, but I'm pretty sure they'll be ok. Keep watch.

Hi Happywanderer, get it checked NOW, my hubby has spent the last 30 years getting them burnt off, cut out, laser treatment, & being a bleeder we sure have had some touch & go times. Many have been bad & i think we can sometimes get a bit slack especially when we live this nomad life & have different docs in different states. Ailsa.
HW I had the same thing had to have it surgically removed it wasn't a bad one but since then have a check every year Make sure you get to the doctor fast Helena
Greetings all Happy wanderer I would ask your GP for a referral to a dermatologist! They are the experts and will give you the right answer once they look at it. I had exactly the same thing on the side of my face and after having the burnoffs done over 2 years they decided to remove it by frozen section (day surgery) After 3 frozen sections and 80 stitches it has gone. I go yearly for the burnoffs which is important to keep them under control and check if there are any problem ones. There is only a slight bit of discomfort with the burnoffs but the peace of mind once checked is immeasurable.
Unfortunately, not all of us have the money to go to a Dermatologist. We have to wait for the public hospital system to see us. I waited 8 months for my appt, and that was quick!

Beth, I went to a doctor at Greenbank who bulk bills and they have a visiting specialist who bulk billed me for the consultation and biopsy.
I had the option of going back to Greenbank or his other surgery at Logan Village to have it removed, the cost won't be very high. He also has a surgery at Springwood.
I have a health care (age pension) card

There are many specialists who bulk bill, you just have to ask.

Oh, I didn't know that. I'll have to look into it.
My doctor has cut out several 'things', she's a good surgeon. But she sent me to the Princess Alexandra Hospital about this one, as it's so close to my eye.
I see a Gastro Specialist in his private rooms at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. That's bulk billed. But I thought that was just because he's in a hospital.

Yes, I'm on a DSP...Disability Support Pension.
Beth simply ask your doctor if she can refer you to specialist who bulk bills, plus you can always negotiate with the specialist regards bulk billing, you will be surprised how many will agree to bulk bill if requested.

Thanks John, I'll do that. Apologies to Pete & Rose for the sarcasm.

You are more than welcome Beth.
When my wife was diagnosed with bowel cancer some years ago, I spoke to her surgeon and told him we were both on the aged pension and could not really afford to pay private fees and after some negotiation with the surgeon and the hospital all was done in the public system, did not cost us a cracker, mind you if I had to I would have re-mortgaged the house, just as long as she was looked after.
I know not all have the luxury of owning a house so I count myself very lucky that that option was open to me.
