whale sharks

biggrin hi everyone,, ok it most likely won't be this year as I'm getting over having a rather heavy land yacht come to rest on my back and neck, but having said that I'll be out sailing again asap.  I am planning next years holiday already,,the bride and I would like to go to monkey mire and to nigaloo reef to dive with the whale sharks, now having never been over there before the question is what is the best time of year to go, weather wise that is, we'll only have 3 weeks or so and will be driving from home here in Adelaide, the travel time factor I can work out but when is the best time to go, we'll be using our camper trailer and it will be just the two of us, any advise on these two places will be welcomed

thanks

bb

The Whale Sharks are only there April to June, so you don't really have a lot of choice. We were there late September a couple of years ago and the weather was sunny and low to mid 20s, but no whale sharks. The wind is pretty fierce over there, so be prepared. I'm not going to comment on the thought of going from Adelaide to Exmouth and back again in 3 weeks, you can read the distances on a map as easily as I can.

Sorry to hear about your accident BB. Ouch! Hope you get better soon, so you can get out there!

Long way there and back, doesn't give you much play time BB57.

The swim with Whale sharks is not a relaxed snorkel... rather you jump in, swim like mad for 50mts or so, swim after the whale shark for a few minutes till it disappears from view then swim back to the boat. Then do it again when theres another whale shark spotted. The younger people on our boat were ok, but the older ones found it a bit difficult after the first few swims.
Its a huge thrill to see such beautiful creatures, but a lot easier if you are fit and a good swimmer. (Which I'm not)

oh well at lest it would be something different,, and anyway I have a very limited time frame to play with and could only devote 3 weeks or so to the trip , but i guess if it's worth doing it's worth doing
