These are on sale :

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/Green/EnergyConservation/RenewableEnergy/PRD~0111896P/Blue+Planet+30W+Solar+Panel.jsp?locale=en

So I wanted to utilize in my house.  I want to run some lights, computer and little things here and there.  But I don't want to rely on the sun all the time, so I need a battery I guess?

Any suggestions on to set this up?

Are the solar panels a good deal?

Can a battery like this  be trickled charged with the 30W panels?

Thank you.

I am not spamming. I tried to write a post that had all the relevant details so I wouldn't have to continue to repost more information is all...

the 30W panels produce 2A going by the website. This is under ideal conditions, but I will use these figures. Usefull sunlight hours in summer are about 7-hrs in winter 4-5 hrs.
In winter you will recharge the batery with 10Ah. The battery youve chosen can be discharged to about 30-40% of uts capacity with no probs, and to 50% for short periods.
So if you want to use the battery efficiently get a bigger panel. If you dont have a large load then a smalle battery would do, about 30 - 40Ah (30Ah can be discharged to 33% and still charged by th panel, 40Ah would be discharged to only 24% so the panel would even charge it even if a bit over cast).

Of course all this depends on your load. You need to find the Watts that each of the stuff you want to use and divide by (say)12 to get Amps then estimate how long each item will be run, to get ampHrs for each piece of equipment. Also if any equipment (computer, screen etc.) is 240V you need an inverter it used power to and needs to be added.

Hope this helps or at least triggers propper conversation. Also read other 'Solarpanel' posts in this (the techies area) and general area.
