Left Ventrical Heart Failure

We have been on the road for about 5 months , but unfortunately i have developed Left Ventrical heart failure so have had to stay put until i can see a heart specialist in a few weeks . I am currently on medication that seems to be helping a lot . But we are worried that our wonderful grey nomad days may be over .

Is there any one that has a similar illness but continues to nomad and how has it compacted at all on your life style .

We would like to plan for our future as grey nomads but seem to be in a hole about it all . Comments would be very welcome asap.   Thanks   joe.

I suffered congestive heart failure about 8 years ago while working in the Middle East.

The result of this was fibrilation of the left ventrical. I was treated with medications including warfrin.

I continued working travelling overseas and when home on days off ( five week rotation) still tripped away
in the caravan. Only have to get your farfrin levels (INR) checked.

When it first happened I thought it was the end of the world as I knew it. It was not!!
Sure you must know your limitations but it need not be the end of you world either.

I no longer can work now as I have other more concerning problems arise and the carravan is now too much for me.
I now plan to do my travelling in a campervan as it is easier to handle for us.

The heart thing has been a very small problem to overcome as I hope it will be for you.

Where there is a will there is bound to be a way so all the best for you results.

Brian.

Lots of people on meds with various conditions Joe, what is best, staying home and worrying about your condition or getting out there and enjoying life the best you can if you are able to manage your condition while doing it.

Among other things, I have left ventricular fibrillation due to electrical impulses misfiring off a node (tachy cardia), they tried to zap the node once but couldn't get to it, so now on pills for it twice a day, only downside is feeling very sluggish and tiredness (the pills slow your heart rate down), I always pull over and have a catnap if I'm feeling tired, it can come on suddenly, but you still have time to find a pull over spot.

Dr says I'm ok to drive as long as I take the meds and gave me a letter to that effect.  Also have a couple of other medical problems which I won't go into here, one also has a pill which makes you tired as well.

Bear, I did what your are thinking off, did the caravan/camper trailer/tenting bit but find it less stressful with a campervan so have gone down that road.

Welcome to the forum to you both Joe and Bear.

Howard has just finished 18 months of treatment for bowel cancer, he will be on meds for the restof his life.
We are going to bali next week for 2 weeks. Just do what you are told, but keep an open mind, once you are fixed up, you will be raring to go. In the meantime, keep busy and happy to take your mind off worry, easier said than done, but it does help. Take care lynette and howard hall
