inskip point

greetings all Well have been on the road for 12 months now with another 12 to go. (and loving it) We are between a couple of housesitting jobs for friends and family in brisbane and are thinking of heading up to inskip point for 10 days. The weather seems to have settled up the coast (will still keep an eye on it though) I am just after a bit of info re inskip I am a mad keen fisho and would love to get the pots out for muddies and sandies I have a portabote with a 4hp merc. Unfortunatley I also have a bit of sciatica which makes lugging both boat and motor a bit painful at the moment. Is there anywhere at inskip I can leave the boat out locked to a structure so that I can limit lugging it around or alternativley can I just take the pots without the boat and do a bit of landbased crabbing with the possibility of success. Looking forward to winter in north qld have met a lot of really nice gns in our our travels and will hopefully catch up with them this time around Peter

Hi Peter - sorry can't help with Inskip Point, but sure someone will share their knowledge - haven't seen you on the site, would remember that avatar - love it!
Anyway, good luck with the fishing and crabbing - join in and make yourslef known to the inmates of the madhouse.

We go to Inskip often. Go down the road until you come to the Tin Can Bay inslet in your left. (Pelican Bay). Its a very easy launch here. If your lucky you may be able to camp right in front of where your boat is launched. If you are concerned with security, you can chain the boat to a tree or to the roots of a tree in the area. If you look across towards Bullock point, where the Fraser Island barges tie up, come back to the left about 3/4 of a klm (you will notice a large houseboat moored here) come back further to the left and put your pots right up in the mangroves, and I mean right up in the mangroves, You may have to put them up there from half tide up to half tide down and check them at the same level of tide. Another place I have had some success is on the edge of the island directly across towards Tin Can Bay. If there are sand crabs about the best place I have found is on the EDGE of the barge channell coming out from Bullock point. Do not/not place them in the channell as this will certainly p....s off the barge operators as the channell is fairly skinny. Wayne at the camping shop in Rainbow sells mullet heads for reasonably cheap bait. Hope this is of some help. cheers Pete

Just beware of a few thieves around who like to steal your catch. Sis and bil live at Tin Can Bay and that has happened to him several times.

I don't think he's tried that side though Pete..I'll tell him about it.

Thanks everybody
Will be leaving tuesday and can't wait.
Jules I have been a member follower of the GN website for a long time but only today decided I had better put an avatar on - I thought it might give people a bit of a laugh
Pete thanks for the info will probably have a good drive/walk around to get it right the first time Will post some pics if we have any success.
Yes beth we have our share of sharefarmers too You get to a point if leaving the pots overnight to hope they haven't been touched Its really only when they take the pots as well you get a bit p*****d off
I use my old banged up pots at night which most people wouldn't be seen dead with heh heh

Pete

I have a brother in law that used to be a professional crabber at TCB, and then pro fishing with a couple of boats out of Tin Can Bay. I think he only has one boat left now though. And another good point is be very careful about stopping near any crab pots that aren't yours. I have seen how the pros can react first hand if they think you may be checking their pots.
