showgrounds compared to caravan parks

Hi guys,

just wondering , i know some showgrounds, like in nowra offer some camping/caravaning spots etc,

i know some caravan parks have all the bells and whisltes etc and some are just bare minimum etc, but they charge upto $40 or more for a bit of grass if your lucky, what does it cost to stay at a showground ,

if you have stayed at a few whats been your experience like

im just getting an idea for when i get my campervan, i've ditched the camper trailer idea ,and while it will take me longer to save up for a unit, and find the right one, i want to be happy from the start, and ive learnt alot from whatching Marj, (Happy wanderer ) etc

I think for me i prefer the hi top, as i would prefer that more and also have room for my birds (buddy the budgie and Clyde the canerie) so thats my ideas for now..

thanks.

I've only stayed in 2 showgrounds, one was free, or $5 if using power, and the other was $10.

If I was going by those two experiences, I'd rather stay in them than CP's. Not just because it's cheaper, but we weren't packed in like sardines either.

SG`s are my first port of call these days, 2 reasons generally price and space with plenty of green grass.

Having said that the SG in Goondiwindi is the same price at the CP over the road which is why you would stay there every time as it`s a super spot, rain or fine whereas the SG can be real sloopy underfoot !!

Strange the pricing thing though and probably came into being due to complaints by the CP owners as a guess.

At Exmouth the showground was $1 more per night than the most expensive caravan park... kept the c/p's full!

It pays to check out the showgrounds, theres some beauty's and others can be boggy or have really gross showers. (Just like some c/p's!)

We have written heaps of notes about places from info given in this forum, thank you everybody!

We have stayed in both and as one would expect some are better that others. As far as showgrounds are concerned they are fairly basic but in the main are basic but good. Cost's vary from about $10 to $18. CP's will depend upon time of year, holiday's, etc and also the standard vary's dependent on location. We have found some wonderful CP in out of the way places and good value but of course that varies from location to location. In the end it really depends upon what you consider acceptable for your needs. Whatever and wherever you find your self may you enjoy your journey. Brian & Cheryl (briche)

We have stayed at a few showgrounds and have been happy.  Childers Qld had toilet and hot shower block beautifully looked after, $8 per night from memory, Woodford Showgrounds Qld. $95 per week had hot showers and toilet block and lots of room, room, room. Canberra showgrounds had toilet and hot shower block also and good price as well. The ones we have stayed at are much nicer than the caravan parks because less people are  there and more room to relax.
