I,m at The famous Tathra jetty, and catching some nice salmon up to 2kgs on pillies and live baits, but theres a big seal which is eating the odd fish if you don,t get them in quick enough.I,m going to turn the fillets into fish cakes for tea tonight.A filley, a potato, half an onion, and some flour, sauteed in a big of oil, beautiful! This is a BIG Seal, 3m long and bloody quick.I,m going to try to get a video of it eating our fish.

The fishing sounds great Bill12, but for all those not so seasoned travellers as you, whereabouts is the "famous' Tathra jetty?? Not all of us have done the whole lap yet, and don't automatically know where you're talking about!
Yes Tarthra is a lovely spot. We were there in 2004 on our first trip in our new Jayco Flamingo. Coming down the hill out of Tarthra we hear an almighty crunching sound. By the time we we able to stop at the bottom of the hill we realised our awning had fallen off. When we went back up the hill it was no where to be found. Think someone had picked it up. As the van was only 3 weeks old we rang Ballarat Jayco where we bought the van and they would not believe us, said someone had stolen it! Finally when we returned they realised that it had ripped out but would not cover it under warrenty had to be an insurance claim.

I,m parked acroos the road in an old track, and will stay the night, or two. The inverter is plying up, so the laptop is hard to charge. Will post video of the seal if I can get it. Bill

There's nothing wrong with the salmon fish cakes. I wash my fillets in salt water to remove the blood lines then mince the flesh mix with shredded potatoes and onion bound together with an egg white or bread crumbs plus what ever takes the fancy. Nice feed all round hot or cold next day .
If you don't want to mince the flesh cook it and then use the flakes in the mix same same outcome

great spot down there. My sons school camp was in Tathra, my mouth is watering just reading the post. Should I meet up with any of you fisher persons out there may I have a lesson or two? Used to go fishing with my uncle but was really there more as a minder and boat anchor I think. I can remember holding a line but didn't do much more than that. My uncle had a disability and mum wanted him to have company. Funny they sent me, I can't swim a stroke and would have been useless had he fallen overboard.... We had a few laughs anyway and we did catch fish on occasion. I remember the peace and quiet of it all. Enjoy and I hope to meet up with some of you accomplished fisher persons soon. Cheers Tess
