Ambulance Cover.

Can anybody please tell me where I need to go to get our Ambulance Cover while in Aussie. I know it used to be included in our Power account for unit on the Coast, but we had notification some time ago that was being discontinued. Nobody seems to be able to give me any info. Many thanks Brandt and Lorraine.

Hi Brandt and Lorraine.
Go to the search button and type in ambulance cover. I just found 5 threads on the topic.
I know at the time someone mentioned a website you can go to.

It's included in the electricity bill in Qld, but I'm not sure about other states including it.
In SA you pay an annual membership and this covers you all over Aus, including Royal Flying Doctor is you need to be evacuated from remote locations.

Same in Victoria. They have just halved the cost.  Only thing I know of that is really going down.  We had payed for 3 years on the original amount and finished up getting a refund when they dropped the price.

Now  Families  $18.75 @ quarter      $75 @ year

Covers you Australia wide

sorry I should not have said pension age, I think ALL people on any type of pension should be covered, BUT please check with the office (centrelink) to make sure you are covered.

AC, they will send you a bill, you just return it with a pension number and they (the office) pay the bill, I wonder if I could do that with my council rate's biggrin

The Ambulance Levy included in the power acc. was abolished July 1st last yr. That's why I am trying to find out what the position is with us.

go to an emergency dept and there should be an ambulance dept, go in there and ask them, if you go to somewhere like HBF etc they will just want your money so will sign you up.

There was a discussion on here a while ago about ambulance cover.  I think it was pointed out that pensioners were covered for emergency ambulance transport.

Therefore you may not be covered in some situations.

Despite being on a pension, I decided that the small amount that it costs was worth it as a donation for such an important service.  And then all bases are covered.

Went to emergency department Gold Coast hospital yesterday (not as a patient) to find out about our ambulance cover. They sent us to main ambulance station, who thought we would be covered if we had a Queensland drivers license and a Queensland residential address. They gave us the phone number of Community Cover which was 1300 369 003. The lady on the other end of the line confirmed that also, and also said we were covered in other states as well, all we had to do in other states was show our Queensland Drivers license showing our residential address and we would be covered. But we kind of feel they could find a loop hole if push came to shove and refuse our claim. So when we slip back home in April for a few weeks, we are regrettably look into comprehensive travel insurance which would probably also cover us for interstate transport by ambulance, and probably also transport back home to NZ.
The $112 fee which Queenslanders were charged through their electricity account was abolished in July 2011. And the cost was picked up by Queensland Government. Don't know anything about seniors or beneficiaries though. Hope this may help others
Brandt and Lorraine. Thanks all for your input, that's what the forum is all about

Brandt, would be a good idea to get something in writing in regards to what your insurance covers, I don't mean the insurance policy althouh you should read that, you need something in plain english (or in your case plain NZ)biggrin
