If it  suits, why not. I've used quite a few in boats etc, and don't necessarily have a preference.  If it works, it works. Maybe check out the brand on the net.

Cheers,

Jack

BigW have them for about the same price Cowboy. Two sizes 10 litre and 20 litre.
You weill find there are a lot of us here who have portapottis. Couldn't manage without them especially if free camping.

Whatever the brand, when you need it you can't do without it! And now we know it's cheaper and better to use nappy soaker powder in them.

Had a Chinese one from Ebay. Had to sell it.

Ok for Ladies. Not so good for blokes. Hole too small, which means "bird and balls" hanging outside wetting the entire floor. Good for a 10-year-old small boy. Get a Fiamma (Italian Made) or any other brand designed for an Australian adult male which has both in abundance.

If the purpose is solo to be used by a lady, in this case disregard this advice.

Hope it helps in your decision.

 Cheers.

I bought the elcheapo from Ebay and found it to be fine, have used it 3 times in 7 months but it was very useful at those times.

I was advised at the time that the best product to use to add to the water was the Woolworths generic brand of nappy soaker and that has been odourless.

From a space point of view and also being a solo traveler I bought the 10 litre size.

Not quite sure why OZKiteman couldn't use his. But please don't anyone enlighten me - I don't want to know.
What I am curious about is two people mentioned putting nappy soaker in the porta potti - can you do this with the caravan loo instead of the chemicals the manufacturer recommends?

Yes! Coles or Woolies generic napisan only. They work great.

Do a search for napisan on here & you will find lots of comments about it.

Cheers

Thanks Jon, did a search as you suggested.  Lots of good advice. Napisan sounds like the way to go, we have been trying to purchase the chemical stuff but couldn't find it except at a caravan repairer/spare parts place, which was a bit dear.

Brenda.

Other than the warranty you might get and being able to return it to a shop front if need be for warranty issues.

Brenda.....not to be confused with Nappisan as such which is a product name.....it is the generic brand nappy soaker, either Coles or Woolies that have the highest sodium percarbonate content which is the active ingredient.

A good cap full in half to 1 litre of warm water in the lower cassette of your toilet.

With heavy use you can top up with another cap of powder every day or more if you choose.

I also use it to refresh the bowl.....just fill the bowl with some water, sprinkle the nappy soaker in (on maked area) and let stand for a time.

Thanks, I've got some of the coles Reliance NapiCare left over from when I used to soak the kids' clothes. I'll give it a go.

I make up a brew of my own chemical. It consists of Borax about half a cup. 1 bottle on cloudy ammonia, and a bottle of concentrated disinfectant, either lavender or rose. It makes up 5 litres. Pour Borax into hot water and dissolve completely, add the amonia and disinfectant when the Borax is cool, then add enough water to make up the 5 litres. Lasts for ages.
The nappy soaker wasn't in vogue when I get the borax recipe.
Bicarb or borax seem to be the base ingredient.

The stuff I've used now for some 2 years is basically the same ..

My choice is Woolworths 'Select' Soaker and Stain Remover .. and also has (3) uses ..

1. Toilet Cassette ..

2. occasional flush of the grey-water lines ..

and

3. I wash my clothes with it .. using it very sparingly , I now dont even rinse ..

That's a pretty potent brew Granny and not cheap.

I agree Jon...more than one use is good and I also wash the van floor with it too as well as the washing and cleaning the toilet.

I buy the 3 kg container and at 8 or 9 dollars it is pretty cheap.

I am sure if it was faulty you'd have every right to return it for replacement.
